The Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla fiercely criticized Secretary of State Marco Rubio this Wednesday, accusing him of wanting to “reinstate political persecution and repression” against those who oppose the Trump administration.
The message from the Cuban regime's Minister of Foreign Affairs was a direct response to the ministerial meeting convened by Rubio on July 16 in Washington, which will be attended by representatives from over 60 countries to discuss the "resurgence of transnational far-left terrorism."
"The new meeting called by the U.S. Secretary of State aims to reinstate the persecution and political repression of those who denounce, dissent, and fight against the neoliberal, imperialist, fascist, and far-right measures promoted by the U.S. government," Rodríguez Parrilla wrote on X.
The regime's chancellor added: "The means to achieve it don’t matter, nor do the victims or the double standards. All that’s needed is a new lie from someone who has a track record of creating them, along with a good propaganda machine that they already control."
The summit convened by Rubio brings together nations from Latin America, Europe, and Asia, including India, Indonesia, and Singapore. Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela were excluded from the meeting.
The spokesperson for the State Department, Tommy Pigott, described the reason for the meeting as "an old threat resurfacing with strong transnational ties and new convergences."
Rodríguez's statement comes amid a sustained escalation of tensions between Havana and Washington.
On Tuesday, the State Department announced the upcoming publication of a report that documents the alleged connections between the Cuban regime and radical left organizations in the United States, focusing on Code Pink and the People's Forum.
The document states that "for nearly seven decades, the Cuban regime has played an indispensable role in virtually all of the significant insurgencies, revolutions, and far-left militant movements in the Western Hemisphere and other regions."
On July 13, Washington imposed new sanctions on Cuban entities, including the Rapid Response Brigades and the Territorial Troops Militias, under Executive Order 14404. Rodríguez described these measures as "criminal and genocidal."
The Justice Department is also investigating 145 pro-Cuba organizations in the United States for possible violations of the FARA Act, with combined annual revenues of around 1 billion dollars.
Rubio, who in June described Cuba as the "world capital of radical left terrorism," has led a diplomatic and sanctions offensive against the Havana regime since the beginning of the second Trump administration.
