The Cuban police detected and dismantled in Manzanillo, a municipality in the province of Granma.
According to the authorities, the operation led to the seizure of more than 40 large plants and around 1,250 small plants of marijuana, totaling nearly 1,300 specimens, to be processed and distributed on the streets of the province.
Authorities did not provide information on the number of detainees or their identities in connection with this finding.
The regime described the seizure as a "crucial victory for the health and safety" of the province, although the triumphant tone contrasts with the reality revealed by the official data: the clandestine cultivation of marijuana in Cuba has never been fully controlled.
According to the report from the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), in 2025, there were 105 incidents of marijuana cultivation nationwide, with 49,018 plants and over 207,000 seeds seized, compared to the 32,868 plants confiscated in 2021.
"Impunity has no place in Manzanillo. This gigantic plantation is now undeniable evidence of a crime that will be punished with full rigor," emphasized the official publication.
The province of Granma has several recent developments. In April 2025, authorities discovered an illegal plantation with over 1,200 plants in Bayamo, and in August of the same year, there were reports of marijuana seizures in the Caymari neighborhood of Manzanillo, along with the arrest of individuals transporting chemical drugs to the provincial capital.
The phenomenon is not limited to the province of Granma. A year ago, an illegal cultivation was dismantled in Tercer Frente, Santiago de Cuba, with more than 400 plants, and in June 2025, more than 19,000 seeds and 950 plants were found in a home in Sigua, also in the same province.
