At 8:00 PM, local Cuban time, concludes the day this Sunday, July 26, 2026, with mixed signals. The US dollar has decreased slightly compared to the previous session, while the euro continues its rise, reaching a new high in the analyzed period. The MLC, on the other hand, sees an increase, although its value should be considered as indicative due to the low volume of transactions supporting it.

The U.S. dollar closes at 673 Cuban pesos (CUP) on average, with a buy rate of 670 CUP and a sell rate of 675 CUP. This marks a decrease of 1.5 pesos compared to the previous day, when it was at 674 CUP. Despite this slight setback, the weekly trend is clearly upward: seven days ago, the dollar was trading at 665 CUP, representing an increase of 7.5 pesos over the week, equivalent to a rise of 1.1%. Over the monthly tally, the U.S. currency has gained 37.5 pesos from 635 CUP 30 days ago, although this comparison may partially reflect adjustments in the methodology of the index. In the last 30 days, the dollar has fluctuated between a low of 610 CUP and a high of 675 CUP. The demand for dollars remains high among those looking to protect their savings from the depreciation of the peso.

The euro closes at 789 Cuban pesos (CUP) in average value, with a buying rate of 780 CUP and a selling rate of 797 CUP. This represents an increase of 3.5 pesos compared to the previous day, when it closed at 785 CUP. In the weekly balance, the European currency has accumulated a rise of 23.5 pesos from the 765 CUP of seven days ago, a 3.1% increase. Over the monthly period, the euro gains 63.5 pesos over the 725 CUP of 30 days ago, although this figure should be interpreted with the usual caution regarding possible methodological adjustments. The maximum over the last 30 days is precisely at the 789 CUP recorded today, the highest level of the period. It surpasses the dollar by 116 pesos, consolidating its dominant position in the Cuban parallel market.

The MLC closes at 491 Cuban pesos (CUP) as an average value, with a buying rate at 425 CUP and a selling rate at 556 CUP. This marks an increase of 10.5 pesos compared to the previous session, when it was at 480 CUP. However, this value should be taken as a guideline, as the closing range records a low volume of transactions in this currency. In the weekly balance, it rises by 3.5 pesos compared to the 487 CUP from seven days ago. Over the last 30 days, the MLC has fluctuated between a minimum of 399 CUP and a maximum of 543 CUP. Without physical existence, its use is limited to state-run businesses that accept it, which restricts its circulation compared to cash currencies.

  • Exchange rate of the dollar USD to CUP: 673 CUP.
  • Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP: 789 CUP.
  • Exchange rate of MLC to CUP: 491 CUP (indicative value).

The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba (Segment III) is 601 CUP per dollar and 684 CUP per euro, remaining well below the values that prevail in everyday practice in the informal currency market. The gap between the official and informal rates is 72 pesos for the dollar and 105 pesos for the euro.

Although Segment III was introduced as a more flexible exchange mechanism, its official rate remains far from that of the informal market and fails to meet the actual demand for foreign currency among the population. In the last month, the official dollar increased from 585 to 601 CUP, and the official euro rose from 666 to 684 CUP, a change that lags significantly behind the pace of the parallel market.

In a scenario of sustained inflation, low state salaries, and increasing partial dollarization of the economy, each variation in the informal market directly impacts domestic prices and the purchasing power of Cubans. This Sunday's closing, with the euro at a period high and the dollar solidified above 670 pesos, reflects the ongoing pressure on the Cuban peso.
