The Cuban content creator known as Sofii Magdaleno, published a testimony that starkly summarizes life in Cuba.
«This is the true reality being experienced in Cuba right now. An unfrozen refrigerator where only water can be stored because food would spoil,» said the young woman in a video posted on Facebook.
"I believe that people still do not have an idea of the magnitude of the situation in Cuba. Ladies and gentlemen, we are living like animals. I am truly worried because this is destroying everyone," she added.
In the description of the clip, the young Cuban was even more direct.
"Right now, the situation in Cuba is critical; people are dying, and we are all going to end up sick from stress or with a serious illness because, as we are living at the moment, there is no one who has health and strength."
The video has garnered over 44,000 views, nearly 2,900 likes, and 318 comments, reflecting the resonance that these citizen testimonies have within the Cuban community both on and off the island.
A crisis that destroys everyday life
In July 2026, power outages in Cuba average between 20 and 26 consecutive hours, with some areas exceeding 72 hours without electricity. Matanzas even recorded interruptions of up to 87 hours.
Cuba has experienced five total national blackouts in 2026. The impact on food supply is devastating, as the scarcity is compounded by the inability to preserve food.
Other Cuban content creators have shown how they lost all their food due to power outages, and a mother publicly erupted against what she called a failed government.
The chancellor Bruno Rodríguez dismissed on June 25 the existence of a humanitarian crisis in Cuba, although he acknowledged that the population suffers from "severe deprivations."
