The ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel took advantage of the closing of the VII Ordinary Period of Sessions of the X Legislature of the National Assembly of People's Power this Thursday to launch a fiery attack against Washington with his most impassioned rhetoric of the month, labeling the U.S. government as a "neofascist regime" and accusing it of using lies as a tool of domination.
The leader described the period since the parliamentary session in December 2025 as "an extremely complex and threatening scenario, akin to a besieged fortress," and listed what he referred to as characteristics of the supposed neofascism of Washington: xenophobia, nationalist exceptionalism, a cult of personality, the proscription of opposing ideologies, and territorial conquest.
"The neofascist regime currently in place in the United States is reviving attempts reminiscent of some of the horrors unleashed by German fascism during the first half of the 20th century in its quest for expansion," he stated before the deputies.
The speech on July 30 is the final link in a rhetorical escalation that Díaz-Canel has maintained throughout the month against the Trump administration.
On July 7, while thanking the support of 136 nations at the UN for a debate on the embargo, he denounced the "outrageous lies of the U.S. delegate" aimed at sabotaging the session.
On July 20, in response to a report from the U.S. government that described Cuba as a national security threat, he accused Washington of resorting "to lies to create pretexts on which to base aggressions against Cuba" and labeled that narrative as "very slanderous, very false."
Days later, at the event for the 73rd anniversary of the assault on Moncada, he described U.S. policy as a "coldly calculated genocide" and "political genocide."
In his speech on Thursday, Díaz-Canel also mentioned the capture of Nicolás Maduro on January 3, 2026, as an event that, he said, "is completely erasing" the notion of a world based on laws.
He also dedicated a section to Gaza, citing estimates from UN agencies that place the number of deaths in the Strip between 75,000 and 90,000, with 60% being women and children, and more than 10,000 missing under the rubble.
"It is necessary and urgent to be aware of the seriousness of the situation. Any of our nations could become Gaza again," he warned.
The speech began with a tribute to the Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés Menéndez, who passed away on June 21, at the age of 94, who had been a member of Parliament in every legislature since the founding of the Cuban Parliament in 1976. The leader presented him as a paradigm of the "centennial generation" alongside Fidel Castro, Raúl Castro, and Che Guevara.
The parliamentary session that concluded this Thursday also approved a declaration warning that any military action by the U.S. against Cuba will encounter a "strong and unwavering resistance," in a context where Executive Order 14380, signed on January 29, 2026, by U.S. President Donald Trump, established secondary tariffs on countries that supply oil to the island, worsening the already critical energy situation in the country.
