The Hotel Neptuno-Tritón, located in Miramar, Havana, has launched a monthly pool membership for this August that offers unlimited access to the facility for 30 dollars per person, with immediate delivery of a membership card.
The establishment, belonging to the state group Gran Caribe, announced the initiative on its Facebook page under the name "Project of Associates to Our Pool," describing the offer as "a one-time payment for the entire month of August" that guarantees "unrestricted access to our pool throughout the month."
The proposal quickly generated a flurry of critical comments among Cubans following the hotel’s social media profile.
Several users pointed out that regular entry to the pool costs three dollars per person without any included consumption, making the membership equivalent to ten visits in order to be worthwhile.
Complaints also highlighted the condition of the facilities and the quality of service. "The worst pool I've been to," wrote Reinier Domingues.
Manuel Fajardo complained, "Why don't they provide complete information? It's always the same; we have to be mind readers. What a poor service!"
Yoly Cabrera was more direct in her assessment: “My God. But so much promotion for that service. It's not easy. Private homes are preferable.”
Other comments questioned the atmosphere of the place and the cuisine. Yeni La Chiqui summed up the general skepticism: "Well, it's not like we're going to go every day, just access to the pool."
The hotel also responded to a user who mentioned a previous price in Cuban pesos, clarifying that "that price no longer exists" and that the rates "have been updated."
The Neptuno-Tritón carries a documented history of deterioration. In 2024, the state of neglect of the complex was highlighted by Cuban youtuber Marlon Hernández in a video that garnered widespread attention, and since 2016 it has been reported that the Tritón tower had to close due to a lack of hot water.
The offer is part of a growing trend among state-owned hotels in Havana to charge for access to their pools in foreign currency or at equivalent prices.
The Nacional Hotel launched a pool party at 19,000 pesos for entry plus a minimum consumption of 6,000 last month during the World Cup; and the Tryp Habana Libre Hotel promoted a full day pass for 30 dollars in June.
