The energy crisis in Cuba continues to have consequences that go beyond blackouts. The Electric Union (UNE) reported this Tuesday that the payment of the electricity bill has been temporarily suspended through its various portals, due to server failures caused by the recent disconnections of the National Electroenergetic System (SEN).
In a statement released on its social media, the state-owned company explained that "the UNE's own servers have encountered problems" as a result of the recent collapses in the electrical system. For this reason, customers will not be able to make bill payments through the various available platforms until Thursday, August 6.
The entity apologized for the inconveniences and recommended that the public stay informed through its official channels while they work to restore the service.
The announcement highlights that the electricity crisis is no longer just affecting the supply of electricity to homes and workplaces, but also the technological infrastructure of the company responsible for the service, even impacting the management of billing.
The suspension of payments comes just one day after a new total disconnection of the National Electric System, which once again left a large part of the country without electricity and forced the initiation of a complex service recovery process. In recent days, the population has faced prolonged blackouts, while electricity generation remains well below demand and authorities have acknowledged difficulties in stabilizing the system.
This new setback adds yet another concern for Cuban consumers, who, in addition to dealing with power outages lasting several hours, now cannot use the payment platforms for their electricity bills until UNE manages to restore the functionality of its servers.
