The United States Marshals Service (USMS) announced this Friday a cash reward program for information regarding criminal activity in Washington D.C., as part of the DC Safe & Beautiful Task Force, the federal task force established by the Trump administration to reduce violence in the capital.
According to the official announcement from the USMS on their social media, any citizen providing useful information may receive payments of up to $50,000, depending on the type of crime reported.
The reward scale is as follows: up to $2,500 for leads that result in the recovery of illegal weapons; up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for violent crimes; and up to $50,000 for information that results in the capture and prosecution of homicide offenders.
The program also covers information about gangs and drug trafficking.
Reports can be submitted through three channels: by calling the 24-hour hotline at 1-877-WANTED2 (926-8332), via email at usmstips@usdoj.gov, or through the official USMS portal.
The official campaign flyer clearly warns citizens: "Do not approach, confront, or attempt to detain anyone. Report information safely to the authorities."
"Help make Washington D.C. safer," summarized the USMS in its statement. "Qualifying tips can receive up to $50,000."
The program accepts anonymous reports, although eligibility to receive the reward is subject to verification and additional conditions of the program.
The DC Safe & Beautiful Task Force was established by executive order from President Trump on March 27, 2025, in response to the high crime rates in the federal capital. The operation is multi-agency and includes the USMS, the FBI, the National Guard, and other federal entities.
Since its launch, the task force has made over 16,000 arrests, seized more than 2,000 illegal weapons, detained nearly 100 gang members, and located 25 missing minors.
The official statistics from the Department of Justice for 2026 show significant drops in key crime indicators in D.C.: homicides fell by 50%, robberies by 42%, vehicle thefts by 60%, and overall crime by 25% compared to the previous year.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy from the Trump administration that employs economic incentives to engage citizens in the fight against crime.
In recent weeks, the federal government also launched its biggest offensive against the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, with rewards totaling up to 102 million dollars for eight leaders and associates of that organization.
In mid-July, the State Department offered $10 million for information regarding three Russian hackers accused of ransomware attacks against critical infrastructure in 21 states.
