At 8:00 PM, local Cuban time, the informal currency market in Cuba closes the day this Saturday, August 8, with a relatively stable outlook.

The U.S. dollar ends the day unchanged, the euro gives up some ground compared to the previous day, and the MLC sees a rise, although its quotation should be considered as indicative due to the low trading volume in this range.

You can check the with updates throughout the day.

The U.S. dollar is quoted at 673 Cuban pesos (CUP) at the close of this Saturday, the same value it had at today's opening, in the previous session, and seven days ago. It remains unchanged compared to yesterday.

Exchange Rate Evolution

In the monthly outlook, the exchange rate has risen by 2.5 pesos compared to the 670 CUP from 30 days ago, representing an increase of 0.4%, although this comparison may partly reflect methodological adjustments in the index.

In the last 30 days, the dollar has fluctuated between a low of 655 CUP and a high of 675 CUP in the informal market. It continues to dictate the trends of the informal market in the context of a structural shortage of foreign currency.

The euro closes at 781 Cuban pesos (CUP), which represents a decrease of 2.5 pesos compared to the previous day, when it was at 783 CUP. Compared to seven days ago, the decline is 4.5 pesos, down from 785 CUP last Saturday.

In the monthly balance, however, the euro has risen by 23 pesos compared to the 758 CUP from 30 days ago, an increase of 3%. This variation should be interpreted with caution, as it may include methodological adjustments to the index.

In the past month, the European currency has reached a maximum of 790 CUP and a minimum of 745 CUP. It surpasses the dollar by 108 pesos, consolidating its dominant position in the Cuban parallel market.

The MLC stands at around 461 Cuban pesos (CUP) at the close of the trading day, a reference value given the low volume of transactions recorded during this time frame. This represents a rise of 8 pesos compared to the previous session, when it was reported at 453 CUP. However, in the weekly comparison, it has decreased by 14.5 pesos from the 475 CUP of seven days ago.

In the last month, the MLC has fluctuated between a low of 425 CUP and a high of 496 CUP. Without physical existence, its use is limited to the state-run businesses that accept it, which restricts its circulation compared to cash currencies.

  • Exchange rate of the dollar USD to CUP: 673 CUP.
  • Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP: 781 CUP.
  • Exchange rate from MLC to CUP: 461 CUP (indicative value).

The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba (Segment III), at 621 CUP per dollar and 717 CUP per euro, remains well below the values that apply in everyday practice in the informal currency market.

Although Segment III was presented as a more flexible exchange mechanism, its official rate remains far from that of the informal market and fails to meet the actual demand for foreign currency from the population. The gap between the official and informal rates for the dollar exceeds 50 pesos, while for the euro it is nearly 64 pesos.

In a scenario of sustained inflation, low state wages, and increasing partial dollarization of the economy, every change in the informal market directly impacts internal prices and the purchasing power of Cubans.

The Exchange Rate of CiberCuba is an index of the Cuban informal market developed through automated analysis of thousands of currency buy and sell posts in Telegram and Facebook groups; the calculation excludes atypical offers and spam messages, weighs each transaction according to its age, and consolidates a representative value that is updated several times a day.
