A Cuban rejected the regime's portrayal of the daily resistance of the population as a result of the leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and stated that people resist due to a lack of alternatives, not out of political support.
"La lack of shame should have a limit," wrote this Monday Elizabeth González Aznar on Facebook, in response to statements made by Miguel Díaz-Canel shared by the official PCC profile.
González questioned that the authorities describe everyday suffering as a "strong and creative resistance" led by the Party and accused the regime of presenting the natural survival of Cubans as a ideological result of the PCC.
"How can they say that the resistance of this people is a response under the leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba? How far does the mockery and insensitivity go in regard to everything this people goes through daily?" he asked.
The post responds to a message shared by the profile of the Communist Party, in which Díaz-Canel attributed the resilience of Cubans to the PCC. "The people's response, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba, has been firm and creative resistance, unity, the defense of their achievements, and the updating of their economic and social model, without ever renouncing the principles of socialism and without yielding to pressures or blackmail," the leader stated, adding that this capacity to "resist and transform" has its roots in the thoughts and actions of Fidel Castro.
González, on the other hand, denied that the population endures the crisis due to support for the Government or obedience to the Party. "This people does not endure due to the guidance of the Party leadership and even less for support of the Government; they endure because we have no other choice," he emphasized.
The Cuban explained that the people endure because emigrating costs money, because many individuals have children and parents who depend on them, and because protesting against the authorities can lead to imprisonment.
"Protesting against you costs imprisonment without trial", he stated. He also pointed out that Cubans find strength even where it seems there is none left, due to the human capacity to survive in the face of death. "But sadly, many have not succeeded, and that does not matter to you," he added.
“Enough of using our survival for political purposes,” González demanded.
"It should be shameful for you to exploit the sacrifice of a people for personal gain, especially when you do not survive as the people do, nor suffer as they do," he added.
Díaz-Canel's statement coincides with the celebration in Havana of the I International Colloquium "Fidel: Legacy and Future," which was attended by over 1,500 delegates from 63 countries, including more than a thousand foreigners, while Cuba is experiencing a serious economic and energy crisis.
During the inauguration of the meeting, the leader referred to the visitors as "ambassadors of truth" and stated that Castro's思想 continues to be the guiding principle for facing one of the most challenging moments experienced by the revolution.
