A defender of the Cuban regime boasted on social media about a manicure dedicated to Fidel Castro, which featured the military insignia of Commander-in-Chief that the late dictator wore on the shoulders of his uniform reproduced on a nail.
The image was shared this Monday by Alma Camila on Facebook, in a post alongside Yarianni Pérez Campo, just a few days before the centenary of Castro's birth.
Alma Camila identifies herself in her social media profile as a "Fidelista Cuban," a psychologist by profession, and "in service of the Homeland."
"It’s almost the 13th," he wrote, referring to the upcoming Thursday, August 13, 2026, the date marking the centenary of the birth of the leader who ruled Cuba for nearly five decades.
The post clarifies that it was two friends who did the manicure: one handled filing and painting the nails, while the other allowed what Alma described as "a work of art and love".
Both prepare to honor Fidel on his centenary, stated in a message that borders on the absurd and takes the cult of personality to extremes that are difficult to comprehend and justify.
Alma explained that she could not personally participate in the drawing because she is allergic to beauty products. However, she assured that she takes pride in her friends' hands as if they were her own "because they are dedicated to Fidel".
The painted motif corresponds to the insignia of the rank of Commander in Chief of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, a military rank reserved for Castro. The emblem placed on the epaulets of his uniform consisted of a red and black diamond with a white star, surrounded by a yellow olive branch and a laurel branch. These branches were incorporated into the design during the 1980s.
The manicure appears amidst an extensive promotional campaign to commemorate the centenary.
The Cuban regime gathered in Havana over 1,500 delegates from 63 countries to participate in the I International Colloquium "Fidel: Legacy and Future." More than a thousand of the attendees at the event are foreigners.
During the inauguration, Miguel Díaz-Canel described them as "ambassadors of truth" and "witnesses that Cuba does not yield," while defending Castro's philosophy as a guide to preserving the Cuban political system.
Outside the island, tributes have also taken place. The regime in Nicaragua has begun to install a metal sculpture in honor of Fidel Castro on Bolívar to Chávez Avenue in Managua.
Nicaraguan co-president Rosario Murillo described the work, carried out by employees of the National Electric Transmission Company (ENATREL), as "another marvel" and announced commemorative events at universities and municipalities.
