Romeo Santos broke his usual silence about his private life to share something very close to his heart: one of his children has autism. He revealed this during an interview on the TODAY program on NBC, and also announced the launch of the Los Santos Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children with autism spectrum disorder and their families.
The singer, known for guarding the details of his family life closely, explained that his son is five years old and was diagnosed at the age of two. "He is five now, a beautiful boy. His condition is not that severe, but as I said, we are still learning more about the situation," he shared in the interview.
What drove him to take action was realizing that, even with all their resources, he and his wife Francelys Infante were facing obstacles that most families would encounter with much greater difficulty. "Most schools do not offer the appropriate programs for children on the spectrum. Insurance companies are not transparent, they do not make it easy," he noted.
It was that shared frustration as a couple that ignited the spark. "My wife and I said to each other: if we are facing these challenges, I can only imagine what most families with children on the spectrum must be going through. And that started to motivate me to do something about it," the artist explained.
This is how the Fundación Los Santos was born, registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in the United States. In an official statement, Santos summarized the spirit of the project with a straightforward phrase: "This foundation is deeply personal to me."
Among the organization's initial actions are the creation of resource centers for families, educational programs, and social development initiatives for children with autism, as well as collaborations with schools and community entities. The foundation also plans to grant scholarships, establish partnerships with other organizations, and organize private meetings to bring together leaders interested in its mission. Santos himself will make a personal contribution to the initiative.
Santos, founder of the group Aventura and father of five children in total, has been one of the most successful Latin artists in the world for years. But this time he decided that his visibility could serve a purpose beyond filling stadiums: to put it to use for those who, unlike him, do not have the means to navigate the challenges of raising a child with autism on their own.
The wife of Romeo Santos also participated in the TODAY program, where she openly spoke about surviving three brain aneurysms. The couple, who have always preferred to stay away from the spotlight in their personal lives, seems to have found in this cause a reason to step forward together.
