Osmara, the aunt of Cuban singer El Chacal, sparked comments on TikTok with a video that has already surpassed 200,000 views, in which she seems to announce her return to Cuba — although that's not exactly what she says.
The clip, posted on their account @foryourlife.oficial, began with a first-person voice describing the exhaustion of life outside: working non-stop, paying for a house that never truly feels like home, getting in the car just to go to work, and living in fear of immigration enforcement. Many users interpreted this as a farewell and rushed to the comments without finishing the video.
Beginner's mistake. Osmara did not talk about herself.
What he did was put himself in the shoes of a young Cuban he saw on social media, who announced his return to the island because, as he explained, he could no longer bear it and missed his children, his mom, and his dad. "I am incapable of criticizing anyone who wants to be happy or do whatever they want with their life, because you are the owner of your life," he made clear in the video.
When the comments started pouring in with simple "Bye bye" or people assuming it was her making that decision, Osmara stepped in to clarify things directly: "That’s not my case. I've been here for 24 years and I love this country. It's content, I speak for others." And just to eliminate any doubt, she added: "Not me either, because the thought of returning to Cuba doesn’t even cross my mind."
A user summarized what many were thinking: "They don’t even finish watching the video before commenting; they don’t understand what is being said, and immediately start to disrespect. Humanity and respect for others' opinions are lost."
Osmara is not new to going viral. In November 2024, she starred in a funny video asking her nephew to help her reach 10,000 followers to monetize her account, and in May 2025 she was recorded shopping in Miami to send things to her granddaughter in Cuba.
The debate over Cubans wanting to return to the island has been trending on TikTok for months. Cases of Cuban women explaining why they are leaving the United States have sparked equally divided reactions: some defend the decision as legitimate, while others point out the real challenges of living in Cuba.
Osmara, who is the aunt of La Leidy's wife, El Chacal's partner, summarized it with a phrase that applies equally to all sides: "There are people who are born to see others happy and feel that happiness, and others who cannot handle the happiness of others."
