Yannier Chávez Arias, creator of the Cuban podcast "Fuera de Serie" based in Miami, announced the passing of his wife Wendy González in an emotional video posted on Instagram, where he sought financial support from his community to cover the expenses following her death.
On Wednesday, August 5th, Wendy began experiencing a severe headache that compelled the couple to go to the hospital. Doctors detected a serious brain issue and urgently transferred her to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital for specialized care. After two surgeries and worsening complications, Wendy passed away on Tuesday, August 11th. Less than a week elapsed from her first symptom to her death.
«Everything happened in a matter of days. It has been something extremely shocking and unexpected for our family, and we are still trying to process everything that has happened,» Yannier wrote in the fundraising campaign he launched on GoFundMe.
Wendy was a central figure in the podcast. "She was the star of the content we created. I know she was very dear to all of you," Yannier expressed in the video, visibly emotional. The creator also revealed that he has recordings with her that have not been released and will publish them when he feels emotionally ready.
To cover medical, funeral, and upcoming economic expenses, Yannier launched a campaign on GoFundMe with a goal of $45,000. At the time this note was published, the campaign had raised $24,966 with 837 donors. "I know this fundraising won’t solve everything, but any help can make a huge difference right now. No contribution is too small. Even $1 adds up, and if you can't donate, sharing this campaign would also be a great help," he wrote.
"From the heart, thank you to every person who has accompanied us, who has prayed for us, who has written to us, and who has been present in one way or another during these very difficult days," Yannier concluded his message.
The Instagram post sparked a wave of solidarity in the Cuban community of Miami. Among the voices that joined in mourning was Cuban comedian Andy Vázquez, who wrote: "I thought it was one of your pranks... but when I started seeing your red eyes, my heart sank, and now I'm crying with sadness, brother. May God give you the strength to carry on. We will remember her with the smile she always gave us. She will always be watching over you from heaven."
Limay Blanco, Javier Berridy, Amanda Camaraza, Carnota, Ariel Ramos Perdomo, Kenny Robert, Alexander Otaola, and many other Cubans joined in offering their support and condolences to the family.
