At 10:00 a.m., local Cuban time, opens this Saturday, August 15, 2026, with the dollar declining, the euro stable, and the MLC showing no changes compared to the previous day. The day starts with a certain calm in the parallel market, although the greenback has already experienced a significant drop compared to levels from a week ago.

The U.S. dollar is trading at 664 Cuban pesos (CUP) in the informal market, with a buying rate around 660 CUP and a selling rate of 668 CUP. This represents a decrease of 1 peso compared to the previous day, when the average value was 665 CUP. The weekly trend is more pronounced: seven days ago, the dollar averaged 673 CUP, indicating a decline of 8.5 pesos during that period, equivalent to a decrease of 1.3%. In terms of the monthly comparison, the dollar is 9 pesos above the 655 CUP recorded 30 days ago, although this difference should be interpreted cautiously, as it may partly reflect methodological adjustments in the index. Over the past 30 days, the greenback has fluctuated between a minimum of 655 CUP and a maximum of 675 CUP. It continues to dictate the rhythm of the informal market amid a context of structural foreign exchange scarcity.

The euro starts the day stable, with an average value of 760 CUP, buying at 750 CUP and selling at 770 CUP. It remains unchanged compared to the previous session. However, the weekly outlook shows a significant decline: seven days ago, the euro averaged 782 CUP, which indicates a drop of 22 pesos over that period, a decrease of 2.8%. Compared to 30 days ago, when it was trading around 755 CUP, it has accumulated a gain of 5 pesos, although methodological caution also applies here. In the last month, the European currency has reached a high of 790 CUP and a low of 755 CUP. It is established as the most expensive currency in the Cuban parallel market, surpassing the dollar by 96 pesos in its average value.

The MLC is around 457 Cuban pesos, with a purchase price of 434 CUP and a selling price of 479 CUP. It remains unchanged compared to the previous day. In the weekly comparison, it has risen by 7.5 pesos from 449 CUP seven days ago, an increase of 1.7%. Compared to 30 days ago, when it was priced at 475 CUP, it has accumulated a drop of 18 pesos, although this variation may also be due to methodological adjustments. In the last month, the MLC has fluctuated between a minimum of 413 CUP and a maximum of 496 CUP. It is important to note that the volume of transactions supporting this quotation is low, so the value should be taken as indicative. Without physical existence, its use is limited to the state-run stores that accept it, which restricts its circulation compared to cash currencies.

Exchange Rate Evolution

  • Exchange rate of the dollar USD to CUP: 664 CUP.
  • Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP: 760 CUP.
  • Exchange rate from MLC to CUP: 457 CUP (indicative value, limited data).

The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba (Segment III), at 628 CUP per dollar and 727 CUP per euro, remains well below the values that prevail in everyday practice in the informal currency market.

Although Segment III was introduced as a more flexible exchange mechanism, its official rate remains significantly distant from that of the informal market and fails to meet the actual demand for foreign currency from the population. The gap between the official and informal rates is currently 36 pesos for the dollar and 33 pesos for the euro.

In a scenario of sustained inflation, low state wages, and increasing partial dollarization of the economy, every fluctuation in the informal market has a direct impact on internal prices and on the purchasing power of Cubans.

The Exchange Rate of CiberCuba is an index of the informal Cuban market created through the automated analysis of thousands of currency buying and selling posts in Telegram and Facebook groups; the calculation excludes atypical offers and spam messages, weighs each transaction according to its age, and consolidates a representative value that is updated several times a day.
