Two men, identified as Yunieski Pérez Sánchez and Didiet González Pérez, were arrested as the alleged perpetrators of the violent assault suffered by a Cuban doctor, who was knocked down and beaten before the assailants stole her scooter and other personal belongings.

The attack occurred on Sunday, August 2, when Dr. Ailenis Pérez Cepero was traveling along the road between the batey Oliva and Unión de Reyes, in Matanzas, according to reported Radio Unión Matanzas.

The delegate of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) in the municipality, Yasiel Prado Valdés, confirmed that the suspects were arrested later at their respective homes in Nueva Paz, Mayabeque.

One of the detainees resides in the area of the old Manuel Isla sugar mill, and the other in Los Palos, the official detailed.

"The investigations allowed us to identify the alleged perpetrators based on the work done at the crime scene, the characteristics of the incident, the surveys conducted in the area, and the information provided by the victim herself," explained Prado Valdés.

The version provided by the broadcaster indicates that Pérez was knocked off her scooter and subsequently assaulted, after which the attackers allegedly took the vehicle and other belongings.

The Facebook profile Con Todos La Victoria, associated with MININT, provided further details about the case and identified those arrested as Yunieski Pérez Sánchez and Didiet González Pérez.

According to that report, the doctor was riding an electric Mishozuki scooter on the Juan Gualberto Gómez highway when, as she passed over the bridge of the Oliva estate, she was intercepted by two hooded individuals.

Moreover, the page stated that the attackers stole a gold chain, two rings, and a wallet with 2,000 Cuban pesos along with personal documents.

With Todos La Victoria also stated that in Nueva Paz, authorities located a third individual identified as a receiver of the stolen vehicle.

According to that version, only a few pieces and traces of the rest of the motor oil were found. This man would also have been arrested and linked to the criminal process.

Before the authorities' version became known, the communicator Niover Licea (Nio reporting a crime on social media) had shared the case indicating that the doctor had become unconscious after the attack.

According to that initial account, after regaining consciousness, she began to walk in search of help until someone driving a horse-drawn cart found her and took her to a police station.

The MININT delegate assured that new details will be provided as the investigations, which remain open, progress.

The violent assault occurs amid growing concerns about crime in Cuba, particularly in Matanzas.

A report published in April on the increase of crime and the vulnerability of Cubans gathered data from the Cuban Citizen Audit Observatory (OCAC), which documented 2,833 crimes in the country during 2025, a 115% increase compared to the previous year.

Of these, 1,536 were thefts, while Matanzas recorded the highest number of verified cases, with 503.

The province has been the scene of other violent assaults in recent months. At the beginning of April, it was reported that armed hooded individuals with a knife assaulted two women in Cárdenas and stole their phones, portable chargers, and personal documents. One of the suspects was apprehended later.

Weeks earlier, seven masked men riding horseback stormed an agricultural cooperative in Colón, fired shots into the air to intimidate, and stole nine cattle, which they subsequently slaughtered. Four suspects were arrested in connection with the incident.
