A man was arrested in the municipality of Cárdenas, Matanzas, identified as one of the alleged perpetrators of a robbery with violence committed days earlier against two women in public by a group of hooded individuals, according to a source linked to the Ministry of the Interior (Minint).

The Facebook page "With Everyone, Victory" reported that the assault occurred in the Pueblo Nuevo Norte area, at the intersection of Calzada and San Juan de Dios, while the victims were walking through the area. At that moment, several individuals with their faces covered intercepted them and, under threat of a knife, took several of their belongings.

Among the stolen items were two cell phones, two portable chargers, and personal documents. The assailants fled the scene without causing physical harm to the women, although the incident left them visibly shaken.

The publication stated that one of the alleged assailants, identified as Víctor Manuel Carrasco Cutiño, was later arrested by a patrol officer after raising suspicions during a police operation.

According to the official version of events, the individual is directly linked to the robbery and also has unresolved legal issues related to sexual assault and corruption of minors.

So far, no additional details have emerged regarding the criminal proceedings against him or about the other individuals involved in the assault.

Increasing insecurity in Matanzas

The case adds to other recent incidents reported in the province of Matanzas, highlighting an increase in crime and violence amid the economic crisis the country is facing.

At the end of February, in the same city of Cárdenas, a violent incident caused great shock: a retiree died due to the beating inflicted by several young individuals during a robbery to steal his money while he was waiting in line at a bank early in the morning.

In March, a armed robbery at an agricultural cooperative in the municipality of Colón was reported. Seven hooded men burst into the location on horseback and, after firing shots into the air, stole nine cattle.

Additionally, thefts have been reported in public spaces and in homes, some of which were caught on video and shared on social media.

The increase in increasingly violent crimes generates a growing insecurity and concern among the population.
