A Mexican traveler named Martín, who manages the account "Martín y la Cubana" alongside his Cuban partner on social media, posted a video on TikTok this Tuesday where he shares his experience after returning from Cuba, and his testimony quickly went viral.
In the one minute and 35 seconds clip, Martín anticipates that his opinion may spark controversy, but he doesn't hesitate: "Honestly, I didn't like it, actually, I didn't like it at all, I loved it." This play on words summarizes the tone of the entire video: genuine enthusiasm and no reservations.
The Mexican candidly acknowledges that he experienced power outages, mosquito bites, and shortages of basic products firsthand. Nevertheless, he claims to have enjoyed "every minute, every second" of his time on the island.
Visited Varadero, attended parties and camping, and surrendered to the local cuisine: the caldosas and the roast pork won his approval without question. He also jokes about the "planchados," the filtered alcohol, and the 'azuquín' as an inevitable —and even enjoyable— part of the everyday Cuban landscape.
Its integration with the local culture is evident in the language: it effortlessly uses expressions like "chévere" and "hijito" throughout the video, which gives the testimony a tone of intimacy that amplified its reach on social media.
"Cuba is very beautiful despite everything that happens; it is quite enjoyable," concludes Martín, who is already announcing a "second season" and warns, with a laugh, that the first thing he will ask for when he returns is coffee.
The video surpassed 86,600 views on TikTok and 134,000 on Facebook, where it also accumulated over 13,000 likes and 805 comments.
