The Brazilian actress Susana Vieira, one of the most beloved figures in Latin American television and especially among the Cuban audience, was seen strolling in Miami in a nighttime post that she shared on her Instagram account with the simple yet affectionate caption "4".
The photographs show her radiant in the Brickell City Centre area, with the city's illuminated skyline and palm trees in the background, wearing an elegant olive green linen outfit with floral embroidery and golden sandals.
The reason for the trip is very special: her only son, Rodrigo Vieira, lives in Miami, and the actress even purchased an apartment in the city to be close to him, her daughter-in-law, and her grandchildren. "My son lives in Miami, and I bought an apartment near his to move there at some point," the actress herself stated.
What makes this visit even more emotional is the timing: Susana will turn 84 years old this Sunday, August 23, and she arrives in Miami to celebrate surrounded by family.
For Cubans, the name Susana Vieira evokes decades of emotions in front of the television. Her most remembered character on the island is undoubtedly Maria do Carmo —the beloved "Doña Do Carmo"— in Senhora do Destino (2004), a hardworking and resilient woman who won millions of hearts. But before that milestone, the actress had already made an impact in Cuba with characters like Ana Carvalho in A Próxima Vítima, which kept the Cuban audience in suspense from its very first episode, or Lorena in Mulheres Apaixonadas, among many others throughout her more than six-decade career.
The visit comes, however, at a bittersweet moment. In the days leading up to her birthday, Susana had to say goodbye to two great friends and colleagues: Glória Menezes, who passed away at the age of 91 last Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro, and Laura Cardoso, who died at 98 in São Paulo the day before. Brazilian President Lula declared three days of official mourning for both actresses, regarded as pillars of television in their country.
Despite the pain, Susana paid tribute to her friends with the strength that defines her: "May the goddesses be with my friends!" she exclaimed.
And then he/she went out for a walk in Miami.
That vitality does not surprise those who follow her closely. The actress was diagnosed in 2015 with chronic lymphocytic leukemia, an illness she has described as manageable but incurable. In 2024, she announced that she was in remission, and since then, she has continued to show that life is celebrated with the same energy as always.
Cubans, who have accompanied her for decades through the screen, surely wish her a happy birthday with the same affection with which she made them laugh and cry for so many years
