The baseball player Randy Arozarena, a Cuban nationalized Mexican, etched his name in the history books of baseball this Sunday by completing his sixth consecutive season with at least 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in Major League Baseball, becoming the first player born in Cuba to achieve six 20/20 seasons in MLB.
According to journalist Francys Romero, the outfielder for the Seattle Mariners achieved the milestone with his 20 home run of the 2026 season, hit against Japanese pitcher Shota Imanaga of the Chicago Cubs.
The achievement came less than 24 hours after a memorable performance by the Cuban on Saturday against those same Cubs, when he hit two home runs—including a two-run shot that secured Seattle's 5-4 victory—and also robbed a potential opposing home run with a spectacular catch in the outfield.
That game left him with 19 home runs, just one shy of the historic milestone. The next day, Arozarena finished the job.
The streak began in 2021, when the Cuban player was with the Tampa Bay Rays and recorded exactly 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases. Since then, it hasn't stopped: 20-32 in 2022, 23-22 in 2023, 20-20 in 2024, and his best season of the series, 27-31 in 2025, now with the Mariners.
With six consecutive seasons, Arozarena also becomes the second Latin American to reach this milestone, following the Venezuelan Bobby Abreu, who recorded seven consecutive 20/20 seasons throughout his career, according to the aforementioned Romero.
In the historical context of MLB, the longest streaks belong to Barry Bonds, with nine consecutive seasons, and to Bobby Bonds and Bobby Abreu, each with seven. Arozarena, with six, joins that very select group of players who have consistently combined power and speed over the years.
The Cuban reached this milestone after a remarkable 2025 season: he achieved his 100th career home run in July of that year and became the first Cuban to play in the postseason with the Mariners, in addition to being selected for the American League All-Star Game.
In mid-August, with 17 home runs in the 2026 season, he was already emerging as the favorite to achieve the 20/20 for the sixth consecutive time.
