Georbis, a 24-year-old Cuban, passed away this Sunday after spending several days in an induced coma in the Intensive Care Unit of the Morón Hospital in Ciego de Ávila, following a serious motorcycle accident.

The news was confirmed by Idelisa Diasniurka Salcedo Verdecia, who had shared an urgent plea for help on Facebook days earlier to obtain a medication that the young man needed.

"Today, with great sorrow, I have to inform you that Georbis has passed away," he wrote this Sunday. He also expressed his gratitude to the many people who rallied to try to help the family.

According to information provided by his family, Georbis suffered three severe brain injuries as a result of the accident: a diffuse axonal injury grade 3, a traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage, and an intracranial hemorrhage described by the family as periventricular.

Since the accident, he has remained unconscious and unable to communicate.

The plea for help had been published on August 9. The family was not requesting money, but rather assistance in locating a necessary medication for their treatment, amidst the severe shortage affecting pharmacies and hospitals in Cuba.

"It was not just a publication or another number on social media. It was a young man with a future ahead of him, with family, dreams, and people who had hope of seeing him recover," lamented Salcedo Verdecia.

The death of Georbis prompted numerous messages of sorrow from friends and acquaintances. Dady Dary Meneses Doménech bid him farewell with an emotional message: "I will miss you so much, my friend. Rest in peace, fly high my king. All of us who had the chance to know you will miss you, my brother."

Maels P. Suárez also recalled the personality of the young man and the impact he left on those who knew him: "I will never tire of remembering you as you were, an incomparable person, unique and with the energy of an entire community." "Rest my brother, from the heavens you will be with us," he added.

Larry Jimenez Companioni also joined the messages in the comments, remembering him as a coworker: "Rest in peace, my brother. The workers at the Motel will miss you."

The desperate search for their family occurred at a time when Ciego de Ávila is facing a severe shortage of medications. Data released this month indicated that the province had only about 10% of its basic supply, with hundreds of medications missing.

"Rest in peace, Georbis. I deeply regret that this time the battle could not be won," concluded Salcedo Verdecia.
