Actor Edy Suárez to the Cuban community on social media: "Lately, all I see is division, vulgarity, and cheap gossip."

Cuban actor and comedian Edy Suárez published a reflection on Instagram this Monday directed at the entire Cuban community, in which he questioned the climate of confrontation, vulgarity, and lack of respect he perceives daily on social media. He urged his fellow countrymen to build something that unites them instead of continuing to fragment.

In the post, accompanied by the caption "We can do better", Suárez confessed that maintaining the pride of being Cuban requires increasingly greater effort: "Every day when I enter social media, I have to make a significant exercise of consciousness to continue feeling proud of being Cuban."

The actor, known for his character "Sumailyn," noted that to find that pride, he must turn to his roots and to the Cubans who "move forward every day in the world," because the landscape he encounters on digital platforms feels increasingly foreign to him.

"I confess that I find it hard to see. Lately, all I see is division, accusations, vulgarity, a lack of intelligence, and cheap gossip," Suárez wrote, before posing a direct question to his followers: "Are we really not embarrassed?"

The message does not target any specific fact or individual, but rather reflects a general criticism of the tone of public debate among Cubans, both on and off the Island.

Suárez also acknowledged the historical reasons behind that fracture: "I know we are a wounded community, hurt, stripped of many principles due to a dictatorship." However, he argued that this origin does not justify perpetuating the same patterns, especially among those who have already emigrated: "But above all, for those of us who have already left, it's enough to keep repeating old patterns, right?"

The post generated an immediate response: it accumulated hundreds of comments within a few hours, indicating that the message struck a chord with the community.

Suárez's call comes at a time of increasing polarization within the Cuban diaspora on social media, with frequent clashes over politics, travel to Cuba, and opposition leadership. He is not the first to raise his voice: last May, businessman Iván Herrera made a similar appeal to Cubans to respect each other despite their differences, arguing that the true adversary is the dictatorship and not other fellow citizens.
