The U.S. dollar rises again this Friday in the Cuban informal market, while the euro slightly retreats and the MLC (Freely Convertible Currency) sees an increase.

At the start of the day, placed the dollar at 673 Cuban pesos (CUP), three pesos more than the previous day, when it was at 670 CUP.

The US dollar has also gained 10 pesos in just a week, as it was exchanged at 663 CUP seven days ago. Over the past month, the dollar has ranged between a low of 663 CUP and a high of 674 CUP.

The euro, on the other hand, has slightly decreased this Friday and is now at 758 CUP, compared to 760 CUP the day before. Despite the daily decline, it remains above the 750 CUP it was at a week ago.

Exchange Rate Evolution

The European currency also maintains a significant difference against the dollar: one euro currently equals 85 CUP more than one dollar in the informal market.

On its part, the MLC stands around 469 CUP, after marking 458 CUP the previous day.

A week ago, the MLC was at 467 CUP. In the last 30 days, it has shown high volatility, with values ranging from 408 to 529 CUP.

  • United States Dollar (USD): 673 CUP.
  • Euro (EUR): 758 CUP.
  • MLC: 469 CUP (indicative value due to low transaction volume).

The rise of the dollar is putting pressure on the Cuban peso again, especially after several days during which the US currency had remained relatively stable.

In the official market, the Central Bank of Cuba is maintaining the rate for Segment III at 634 CUP per dollar and 739 CUP per euro this Friday.

The difference with the informal market is 39 pesos in the case of the dollar and 19 pesos in the case of the euro.

Although Segment III was created as a more flexible exchange mechanism, its values continue to be below those prevailing in informal transactions.

In just one month, the official exchange rate of the dollar rose from 605 to 634 CUP, while the euro increased from 689 to 739 CUP, reflecting the ongoing pressure on the national currency.

The informal rate is an index created through the automated analysis of thousands of buy and sell ads posted in Telegram and Facebook groups.

The system filters out atypical offers and spam messages, calculating a representative value that is updated several times throughout the day.
