Two brothers were arrested in Guantánamo as suspected perpetrators of a theft at a store that sells products from the maternity basket module, after they stole perfumes, soaps, powders, and other items during the early morning hours.
The official profile Guantánamo y su Verdad reported on Friday that the theft took place at the "La Beba" Shopping Center, located on Aguilera Street, between Moncada and Agramonte, in the city of Guantánamo.
According to the reported version, those involved were able to bypass the facility's security, which had a guard, forced the establishment’s closure, and entered the premises.
They stole items from inside such as perfumes, soaps, talcum powders, and other products intended for the maternity basket module.
The report stated that, following investigative actions, the two alleged perpetrators were arrested and the stolen goods were recovered.
Blood brothers and now brothers in cause, the official profile noted in reference to the detainees, whose identities were not disclosed, and it only published censored images.
The publication highlighted that the stolen items had a "priority social destination," aimed at pregnant women and their families, amidst the challenges many Cubans face in accessing basic hygiene and personal care products.
The case adds to other thefts of state goods and resources reported in recent months in Guantánamo.
In June, authorities reported the dismantling of a network allegedly dedicated to the theft of fuel from a generator.
A month later, five individuals were arrested for the alleged theft of dielectric oil at an electrical station in the province, a crucial product for the operation of transformers and other equipment.
Also in July, two individuals were caught as they allegedly attempted to steal a solar panel in Guantánamo, another incident that highlighted the theft of resources in public facilities.
The events take place against a backdrop of growing concern over crime and insecurity in Cuba.
The rise in thefts, attacks, and other crimes has caused alarm among citizens, while the economic crisis and the decline in living conditions continue to impact large segments of the population.
