A family that stayed one night at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba showed how, upon entering their room, they found a cockroach strolling across the drawers.
The author of the clip is the Cuban content creator @la_china_diaz7. She commented on the discovery with irony in the description of her post: "Everything is great, but I wasn't informed that the rooms were shared with one more person."
In the video, he gave the insect a proper name: "Little Martina the cockroach was here too, sir, fleeing from the power outages. Can you imagine that!"
The humorous tone did not mask the discomfort of the moment. Despite this, the user acknowledged that the facilities of the Hotel Nacional de Cuba were in good condition.
Regarding the room, he said it was "quite lovely and cozy." He emphasized that everything was "very clean" and noted that the decor has an "antique" vibe.
Other "little cockroaches" in hotels in Cuba
In September 2025, an Italian influencer reported having slept among cockroaches at the Memories Miramar hotel, counting more than 30 insects in a single room and with no running water.
That same month, a Cuban found a cockroach in a dessert at a restaurant in Havana, and in August 2025, Spanish tourists also reported cockroaches in the buffet area of a hotel in Varadero.
The Hotel Nacional de Cuba, inaugurated on December 30, 1930, and managed by Gran Caribe, is the most emblematic hotel in the country. International leaders, Hollywood celebrities, renowned writers, and artists have all stayed in its rooms. However, during her stay, a Cuban guest encountered a much less illustrious visitor: a cockroach.
The worst moment for Cuban tourism in decades
In the first semester of 2026, Cuba received only 387,591 international tourists, a 60.7% decrease compared to the same period in 2025.
The Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz acknowledged before the National Assembly that 73% of hotel facilities remain closed and that about 25,000 workers in the sector are in a state of "availability."
Since April 2026, the offers of the Hotel Nacional for Cubans only apply from Monday to Friday and require 48 hours' notice, a restriction that further limits access for domestic clients.
Despite everything, the author of the video concluded her narrative with gratitude: "A blessing God gave us was to enjoy this beautiful hotel and these lovely views."
