A multiple collision on the express lanes of Interstate 95 heading south blocked that stretch of the highway in Broward County, near Sunrise Boulevard, according to reported by Telemundo 51.

The incident was reported around 1:24 p.m., just before exit 29 of the highway, on one of the busiest roadways in South Florida.

Images captured by traffic cameras show at least seven vehicles —including vans and trucks— stopped in the area while teams from the Fire and Rescue Department were responding to the emergency.

As of the time of the report, the authorities had not confirmed any injuries or disclosed the cause of the collision.

Telemundo 51 contacted the Florida Highway Patrol to request additional information, but no response had been received by the time this report was published.

Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes and anticipate delays while response efforts continue at the scene.

The express lanes of I-95 are a dynamic toll infrastructure that runs parallel to the regular lanes for approximately 21 miles, from the area of SR 836 to Broward Boulevard, with prices that vary in real time to maintain traffic flow. Their closure in the afternoon has a significant impact on regional mobility.

The segment of I-95 in Broward, particularly near Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, has a recent history of serious accidents. At the end of July, a multi-vehicle crash in the same southbound express lanes left three people hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and at least eight vehicles involved.

In mid-February, another multiple vehicle collision at the same spot closed all southbound lanes for hours, leaving at least one person in critical condition. Days later, a fatal crash in Pompano Beach resulted in two deaths and several injuries on the same highway.

The area is regarded as a high-incident accident spot in South Florida, and incidents on the express lanes of Broward County have led to prolonged closures multiple times over the past few months.
