A Cuban and four Colombians were arrested in Sinaloa with rifles and thousands of cartridges

A Cuban citizen was arrested along with four Colombians and four other individuals during an operation in Rosario, in the southern part of the Mexican state of Sinaloa, where authorities seized nine AK-47 rifles, over 2,600 cartridges, and around five kilograms of suspected marijuana, according to a report from El Heraldo de México.

The detention took place in the community of Agua Verde during a joint operation involving the Sinaloa Special Operations Group (GOES) and the Mexican Army. The agents detected armed civilians in a property while conducting reconnaissance and surveillance patrols.

A total of nine people were detained, including four Colombians, one Cuban, and two women, one of whom is a minor. The authorities did not provide information on the identity, age, or nationality of the other arrested individuals.

The seized arsenal included nine AK-47 rifles of 7.62×39 mm caliber, 54 magazines, and 2,620 rounds of ammunition, as well as nine tactical vests and 10 ballistic plates.

The detainees and all seized items have been placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry of the Attorney General's Office (FGR), which will need to determine their legal status and establish the origin of the weapons.

So far, authorities have not clarified whether the property operated as a safe house nor have they publicly linked the detainees to any criminal organization.

The detention of the Cuban adds to other cases reported this year in Mexico.

In January, a Cuban citizen was arrested in Cancun, identified by the authorities for his alleged connections to a criminal network.

In June, seven Cubans were arrested in Holbox during an operation where authorities seized a significant drug shipment.

Another case occurred in April in Mexico City, where a Cuban was captured, identified as the leader of a criminal network.

The investigation by the FGR must now clarify what role the Cuban citizen played within the group and whether the nine detainees had any connections to the criminal networks operating in Sinaloa.
