opens this Friday, September 4, 2026, with a bullish trend in the two main currencies.

At 10:00 a.m. (Cuban local time), the US dollar and the euro are gaining ground compared to the previous trading day, while the MLC is experiencing a slight decline, although its value should be interpreted with caution due to the low trading volume that supports it.

Summary of rates

  • Exchange rate of the dollar USD to CUP: 683 CUP.
  • Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP: 774 CUP.
  • Exchange rate from MLC to CUP: 477 CUP (indicative value, limited data).

The dollar on the rise

The U.S. dollar is quoted at 683 Cuban pesos (CUP) as an average value at the opening this Friday, with a buying price of 680 CUP and a selling price of 685 CUP.

This represents an increase of five pesos compared to the previous day, when the greenback closed at 678 CUP.

Exchange Rate Evolution

In a weekly perspective, the dollar has risen by 10 pesos compared to the 673 CUP it was at seven days ago, which represents an increase of 1.5%.

Compared to 30 days ago, the quote is also 10 pesos higher; however, it is important to note that the comparison over that period may partly reflect methodological adjustments in the index rather than just market movements.

In the last month, the dollar has fluctuated between a low of 663 CUP and the current high of 683 CUP.

The demand for dollars remains high among those looking to protect their savings against the depreciation of the peso.

The euro gains ground

The euro starts the day at around 774 Cuban pesos in average value, with a buying price of 770 CUP and a selling price of 777 CUP.

Regarding the previous session, the European currency has risen by 0.5 pesos, which is a modest daily increase but fits into a clearer weekly trend: a week ago, the euro was trading at 758 CUP, representing a gain of 16 pesos over the last week, equivalent to a 2.1% increase.

Regarding the comparison over 30 days, the euro is 11.5 pesos below the 785 CUP from a month ago. However, this figure should be interpreted with caution as it may include methodological adjustments to the index.

In the last month, the community currency has fluctuated between a low of 746 CUP and a high of 785 CUP.

Exceeds the dollar by 91 pesos, consolidating its dominant position in the Cuban parallel market.

The MLC, indicative value

The MLC hovers around 477 Cuban pesos in average value, with a purchase price of 449 CUP and a selling price of 505 CUP.

This represents a drop of 2 pesos compared to the previous day, when it stood at 479 CUP.

In the past week, however, the digital currency has risen by 8.5 pesos compared to the 469 CUP from seven days ago.

It is important to emphasize that the volume of operations with MLC during this time frame is limited, so the figure should be considered as a guideline.

Without a physical existence, its use is limited to the state-run businesses that accept it, which restricts its circulation compared to cash currencies.

Gap between the informal market and the official rate

The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba (Segment III) is 638 CUP per dollar and 742 CUP per euro, remaining well below the values that prevail in everyday practice in the informal currency market.

In the case of the dollar, the difference between both markets amounts to 45 pesos; for the euro, it is 32 pesos.

Although Segment III was introduced as a more flexible exchange mechanism, its official rate remains far from that of the informal market and does not meet the actual demand for foreign currency from the population.

In the last month, the official dollar rate has climbed from 615 to 638 CUP, and the euro rate has risen from 709 to 742 CUP, but the parallel market continues to set the real pace of the Cuban economy.
