At 8:00 PM, Cuban local time, concludes the day on this Wednesday, September 2, 2026, with mixed performances among its main currencies.
The U.S. dollar remains unchanged compared to the previous session, while the euro gains ground and shows a slight increase. The MLC, for its part, offers a reference value that should be taken with caution given the limited volume of data available during this time frame.
The US dollar is trading at 678 Cuban pesos (CUP) at the close of this session, exactly the same value it recorded at the close of the previous session.
The US dollar, however, has gained 8.5 pesos compared to seven days ago, when it stood at 669 CUP, representing a 1.3% increase on a weekly basis.
Exchange Rate Evolution
In the last month, the dollar has fluctuated between a low of 663 CUP and the current high of 678 CUP. It continues to set the pace of the informal market in a context of structural currency shortage.
The euro closes the day at 770 Cuban pesos (CUP), which represents an increase of 2.5 pesos compared to the previous session, when it stood at 768 CUP.
During the week, the European currency gained a total of 12.5 pesos, equivalent to an increase of 1.7% compared to the 758 CUP from seven days ago.
Compared to 30 days ago, the euro was trading at 785 CUP, although it is worth noting that this comparison may partly reflect methodological adjustments in the index and not just market movements.
In the past month, the European currency has fluctuated between a low of 746 CUP and a high of 785 CUP. It is established as the most expensive currency in the Cuban parallel market, surpassing the dollar by 92 pesos.
The MLC offers a closing indicative value of 473 Cuban pesos (CUP), although available data is limited and this figure should be interpreted with caution.
This represents an increase of 11 pesos compared to the value recorded the previous day (462 CUP) and 14.5 pesos compared to the 458 CUP from seven days ago.
In the last month, the MLC has shown a wide range of variation, with a minimum of 408 CUP and a maximum of 529 CUP, reflecting the volatility of this currency in the informal market. Without physical existence, its use is limited to state-run businesses that accept it, which restricts its circulation compared to cash currencies.
- Exchange rate of the dollar USD to CUP: 678 CUP.
- Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP: 770 CUP.
- Exchange rate from MLC to CUP: 473 CUP (indicative value, few data available).
The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba (Segment III), at 638 CUP per dollar and 739 CUP per euro, remains well below the values that prevail in everyday practice in the informal currency market.
Although Segment III was introduced as a more flexible exchange mechanism, its official rate remains far from that of the informal market and fails to meet the actual demand for foreign currency from the population.
In the case of the dollar, the gap between the official and informal rates reaches 40 pesos; for the euro, it is 31 pesos.
The gap between the official and informal exchange rates reflects the ongoing scarcity of foreign currency in the state banking system and the high demand for dollars and euros from the population, whether for emigration, importing goods, protecting savings, or making purchases in the private sector.
In a scenario of sustained inflation, low state salaries, and increasing partial dollarization of the economy, any variation in the informal market directly impacts internal prices and the purchasing power of Cubans.
The Exchange Rate of CiberCuba is an index of the informal Cuban market created through the automated analysis of thousands of foreign exchange buy/sell posts in Telegram and Facebook groups; the calculation filters out atypical offers and spam messages, weights each transaction based on its recency, and consolidates a representative value that is updated several times a day.
