At 8:00 PM, local Cuban time, closes the day this Saturday, September 5, 2026, with a mixed performance: the US dollar remains unchanged compared to the previous day, the euro has increased, and the MLC has seen a notable decline, although caution is advised given the limited volume of data available during this time frame.

The US dollar closes the day at 683 Cuban pesos (CUP), the same value it had at the close of the previous session. However, the North American currency has gained 7.5 pesos compared to seven days ago, when it was around 675 CUP, which represents a rise of 1.1% over the last week.

In the monthly outlook, the dollar has risen by 10 pesos compared to the 673 CUP from 30 days ago, although this comparison should be taken with caution, as it may partly reflect methodological adjustments of the index. In the last 30 days, the greenback has fluctuated between a minimum of 663 and a maximum of 683 CUP, the level it stands at today. It continues to indicate the pulse of the informal market in a context of structural shortage of foreign currency.

The euro closes higher this Saturday, standing at 777 Cuban pesos, two pesos more than the previous day, when it closed at 775 CUP. This represents an increase of 0.3% compared to yesterday. In a weekly perspective, the European currency has gained 14.5 pesos from 763 CUP seven days ago, a rise of 1.9%.

Exchange Rate Evolution

In terms of the 30-day comparison, the euro was trading at 785 CUP then, above the current level, although this difference may partly be due to methodological adjustments of the index. In the last month, the European currency has fluctuated between a minimum of 746 and a maximum of 785 CUP. It surpasses the dollar by 94 pesos, consolidating its dominant position in the Cuban parallel market.

MLC will close this Saturday at an indicative value of 441 Cuban pesos, with a warning that the available data in this range is limited and the figure should be interpreted with caution. If confirmed, this would represent a decline of 21 pesos compared to the 462 CUP from the previous day, a decrease of 4.5%.

In the weekly comparison, the MLC has accumulated a loss of 25.5 pesos compared to the 467 CUP from seven days ago. Over the last 30 days, it has fluctuated between a low of 408 and a high of 529 CUP. Without physical existence, its use is limited to the state-owned businesses that accept it, which restricts its circulation compared to cash currencies.

  • Exchange rate of the dollar USD to CUP: 683 CUP.
  • Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP: 777 CUP.
  • Exchange rate from MLC to CUP: 441 CUP (indicative value, limited data).

The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba (Segment III) is 640 CUP per dollar and 744 CUP per euro, remaining well below the values that prevail in day-to-day transactions in the informal currency market.

Although Segment III was introduced as a more flexible currency mechanism, its official rate remains far from that of the informal market and fails to meet the actual demand for foreign currency among the population. The gap between the official and informal rates for the dollar is 43 pesos, and for the euro, it reaches 33 pesos.

In a scenario of sustained inflation, low state salaries, and increasing partial dollarization of the economy, every fluctuation in the informal market directly impacts internal prices and the purchasing power of Cubans.

The Exchange Rate of CiberCuba is an index of the Cuban informal market created from the automated analysis of thousands of currency buying and selling posts in Telegram and Facebook groups; the calculation disregards atypical offers and spam messages, weighs each transaction according to its age, and consolidates a representative value that is updated multiple times a day.
