Stefano Cremasco-Cicero, 36 years old, appeared before a Miami-Dade court this Sunday, accused of fatally stabbing his own mother in a luxury apartment in the Solitair Brickell building, and his only explanation to detectives was: "I was defending myself."
According to the detailed arrest report by Telemundo 51, Miami Police officers arrived at the building—a 50-story skyscraper located on Southwest 8th Street—shortly after 4:45 a.m. on Friday, following a 911 call. They found the victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, with multiple stab wounds in the apartment on the 47th floor. Miami Fire Rescue personnel pronounced her dead at approximately 5:05 a.m.
The security cameras of the building recorded Cremasco-Cicero and his mother getting into the elevator together up to the 47th floor around 10:30 PM on Thursday. Hours later, the video shows him entering the elevator with blood on his clothes and holding a knife, dropping it, picking it up again, changing clothes, leaving the building, and walking down the street while on the phone, before returning to the lobby.
It was a food delivery person who called 911 at the request of the accused himself, who opened the front door and asked for help. The woman noticed that he had blood on him. When confronted by detectives, Cremasco-Cicero repeated his account: "I was defending myself."
During the apartment search, investigators found several kitchen knives with blood residue and two t-shirts with blood splatters.
The accused's wife, who was in France attending a wedding, informed the detectives that Cremasco-Cicero's mother was visiting from Mexico and that they both had plans to have dinner that night. She also revealed that the relationship between mother and son had never been close since their parents' divorce, and that he was going through a period of stress due to the opening of a new restaurant in Coconut Grove.
According to Florida's commercial records, Cremasco-Cicero is listed as the manager of 1986 Steak House, an Argentine-inspired restaurant located in Mayfair Plaza, Coconut Grove, which opened in May 2026. He was also the operations manager of the U.S. division of Grupo Orfano, a hospitality group with 18 establishments in Mexico, the United States, and Argentina.
The accused and his wife are listed in the lease of the Solitair apartment since July 2024, and he held an investor visa. Following his arrest, he was admitted to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
This Sunday, Judge Lissette De La Rosa denied bail. Cremasco-Cicero appeared before the court wearing a green personal risk prevention gown. The prosecutors presented a charge of second-degree murder with a weapon, a crime that in Florida can carry a life sentence. Additionally, there is a immigration hold from the Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement against him.
The southern part of Florida has recorded other cases in recent years of children accused of fatally assaulting their mothers, such as the case of the Cuban teenager Derek Rosa in Hialeah in October 2023 and that of a young man in Sunrise in 2025, highlighting the frequency with which such intrafamilial crimes reach the courts in the region.
The preventive detention hearing is scheduled for 9 AM on Tuesday, September 9, before Circuit Judge Ellen Sue Venzer, who has been assigned to the case.
