Four Cuban citizens were arrested this Sunday in Cancun following an incident that began with a police chase and ended with a car crashing into the perimeter fence of a Mexican National Guard facility.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Chichén Itzá and Tulum avenues in Supermanzana 63, after agents attempted to stop a white Volkswagen with license plates from Sinaloa.
According to the Mexican outlet Posta MX, state police signaled for the vehicle to stop, but its occupants ignored the order and accelerated, leading to a chase through several avenues in downtown Cancún.
The chase ended when the driver lost control while attempting to merge onto Chichén Itzá Avenue and crashed into the wall of the federal facilities, causing visible damage to the structure.
After the impact, a man and a woman of Cuban nationality exited the vehicle and tried to escape on foot.
According to Quinta Fuerza, agents were able to apprehend both individuals: the man was subdued by the officers, while the woman cooperated with the authorities.
The incident subsequently led to two additional arrests. According to reports, two Cuban women present at the scene attempted to seize the cell phone of the detained individual, which resulted in their arrest as well.
In total, three women and one man, all Cuban, were taken into custody by the authorities.
Posta MX also noted, in a preliminary report, that the vehicle involved might be reported stolen, although this information had not been officially confirmed by the Attorney General's Office (FGE) of Quintana Roo at the time the report was released.
The four detainees have been made available to the relevant authorities, who must determine their legal status and clarify the circumstances of the incident, including the origin of the vehicle.
The area remained cordoned off while agents from the Municipal Police and Traffic of Cancun carried out the proceedings and coordinated the removal of the car.
