opens this Tuesday, September 8, 2026, with the dollar and the euro on the rise.

At 10:00 a.m. (Cuban local time), the US dollar rises by one peso compared to the previous day, reaching 684 Cuban pesos, while the euro gains two pesos and reaches 778 CUP.

The Freely Convertible Currency (MLC), with a low volume of transactions, stands at around 417 pesos, a value that should be considered merely as a guideline.

Summary of exchange rates

  • Exchange rate of the dollar (USD) to CUP: 684 CUP.
  • Exchange rate of the euro (EUR) to CUP: 778 CUP.
  • Exchange rate from MLC to CUP: 417 CUP (indicative value, limited data).

The dollar, one peso more expensive than yesterday

The United States dollar is trading this Tuesday at an average value of 684 Cuban pesos (CUP) in the informal market, with a buying price of 680 CUP and a selling price of 687 CUP.

Exchange Rate Evolution

This represents an increase of one peso compared to the previous day, when it closed at 683 CUP.

On a weekly basis, the U.S. dollar has increased by six pesos compared to the 678 CUP it recorded seven days ago, which corresponds to a rise of 0.9%.

Compared to 30 days ago, when it was at 673 CUP, the increase amounts to 11 pesos (+1.6 %), although it is advisable to take this comparison with caution, as it may partly reflect methodological adjustments of the index.

In the last 30 days, the dollar has fluctuated between a low of 663 CUP and the current high of 684 CUP.

The euro has gained two pesos and is solidifying its position as the most expensive currency

The euro is trading this Tuesday at an average value of 778 Cuban pesos, with a buying range of 775 CUP and a selling range of 780 CUP.

This represents an increase of two pesos compared to the previous day, when it was reported at 776 CUP.

In the last week, the European currency has gained 10 pesos compared to the 768 CUP from seven days ago, an increase of 1.3%.

Compared to 30 days ago, the euro remains unchanged in terms of average value, although this monthly stability may be influenced by adjustments in the index methodology.

In the past month, the exchange rate of the euro has fluctuated between a low of 746 CUP and a high of 780 CUP.

It is stated as the most expensive currency in the Cuban parallel market, exceeding the dollar by 94 pesos.

The MLC, a guiding value in light of the low data volume

The MLC starts this Tuesday at around 417 Cuban pesos in average value, with a purchasing value of 362 CUP and a selling value of 471 CUP.

This value should be taken as a guideline, given the limited volume of transactions recorded during this time frame.

Regarding the previous day, the MLC has decreased by five pesos from the 422 CUP of the day before.

In the last week, the decline is significant: seven days ago it was at 467 CUP, which represents a decrease of 50 pesos (-10.7%).

In the last 30 days, it has decreased from 450 to 417 CUP, with a maximum of 529 CUP and a minimum of 408 CUP.

Without a physical existence, its use is limited to state-owned stores that accept it, which restricts its circulation compared to cash currencies.

The gap with the official rate, a reflection of scarcity

The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba (Segment III), set this Tuesday at 644 CUP per dollar and 749 CUP per euro, remains below the rates in the informal currency market.

The difference between both markets today amounts to 40 pesos for the dollar and 29 pesos for the euro.

Although Segment III was introduced as a more flexible exchange mechanism, its official rate continues to be significantly lower than that of the informal market and fails to meet the actual demand for foreign currency from the population.

In the last month, the official exchange rate of the dollar has risen from 621 to 644 CUP, and that of the euro from 717 to 749 CUP, which shows a gradual devaluation that, however, does not manage to close the gap with the parallel market.
