Shakira and Maluma are joining musical forces again eight years after their last song together. The two Colombians announced on Instagram their new single titled «Agua», which will be available on all platforms on September 17, 2026.
The announcement came with a high-production image —Shakira in a white lace bodysuit and transparent heels, Maluma seated on a wooden chair with his shirt open and tattoos on display— and a message that was as brief as it was impactful: "AGUA 17.09.26 We went Mundialllll."
The fans' reaction was immediate: the post surpassed a million likes in just a few hours and accumulated over 11,000 comments.
Maluma also shared a 15-second preview on TikTok that is approaching 500,000 views, where you can hear the tone of the song: Latin rhythms with influences of bachata and merengue, and lyrics that leave no doubt about the subject: "Because when you look at me, my mouth waters / Quench my thirst since you’re here / Oh, everything about you is necessary, everything drives me wild / Leave the fears behind and start to feel."
"Water" will be the fourth official collaboration between the two artists, and the first since "Clandestino" in 2018. Their story together began in 2016 with "Chantaje," a global phenomenon that spent 11 non-consecutive weeks at number one on Billboard's Hot Latin Songs, reached number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100, and has accumulated over 3.2 billion streams on YouTube.
Then came "Trap" in 2017, included in Shakira's album El Dorado, and "Clandestino" in 2018, featuring reggae influences, which reached number one on Latin Airplay. Since then, each had followed their separate paths.
The return could not come at a better time for Shakira. On the very same day, September 17, when "Agua" premieres, the Barranquilla native will take the stage at the so-called "Estadio Shakira" in Madrid to kick off her 12-night European residency, the finale of her world tour “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour”, which began in February 2025 in Rio de Janeiro and has accumulated over 150 dates.
For now, it has not been confirmed if "Agua" will have an official music video, but with that teaser and that cover art, the world of Latin pop already has enough to whet the appetite.
While we wait to listen to "Agua," there's nothing better than remembering the collaborations that Shakira and Maluma have given us so far. Which one is your favorite?
