The rest of the gathered family members also broke down in tears upon seeing him, in a scene that the video's author described with a single phrase: "And the sky cried too."
The clip was published on Tuesday by the user @idrey.leivas.mart on TikTok and has accumulated over 56,400 views, 6,655 likes, and 626 comments in less than two days, figures that reflect the tremendous emotional resonance that this type of content evokes within the Cuban community both on and off the island.
What makes the scene particularly impactful is that the young man was already crying inside the vehicle before getting out, even before seeing his family, as if the weight of the years of distance had become unbearable in the final meters of the journey.
In the background, a ballad accompanies the images with lyrics that seem to have been written for that exact moment: "With the strength of my heart / And the courage of a love without end / One day I will gather my courage / And I will reclaim what I lost."
Similar cases have documented separations of up to ten years without seeing each other, with scenes described as heartbreaking and impossible to witness without feeling emotional.
Last Tuesday, just a week before this video, another Cuban returned to the island after four years and five months of separation from his family, in a scene just as emotional that also circulated widely on social media.
The lyrics of the song accompanying this week's video seem to encapsulate what thousands of Cubans feel from afar: "A thousand broken illusions without reason / About the legacy of envy and power / But hope never dies."
