Alexander Pantoja Bertot, an electrical project specialist from the Santiago de Cuba Electric Company, disappeared on Thursday while conducting a work tour in a rural area of the province, according to a public notice shared on Facebook by the company itself.
The state entity reported that Alexander was inspecting the power line that supplies the Gota Blanca reservoir, located on the border between the municipalities of Palma Soriano and Contramaestre, an area that includes the communities of La Aduana, Juan Barón, Arroyo Blanco de Aguacate, Haití Chiquito, and Las Cruces.
"From the Electric Company of Santiago de Cuba, we extend our deep concern to the family of our colleague Alexander Pantoja Bertot, an electrical worker who has been missing since yesterday while performing work duties," the official statement noted.
The company confirmed that law enforcement authorities are already involved in the search and urged the public to share any information that could help locate him.
The Electric Company of Santiago de Cuba stated that it remains "vigilant to the situation" and reiterated its appeal to the public: "We deeply appreciate any information that may help locate Alexander."
Simultaneously, his sister Yaima Bertot made an urgent appeal on her social media directed to her friends: “Please, I want to ask all my friends to share my brother's photo and help me find him in Cuba; he went out to work around the area of Palma Soriano and Arroyo Blanco, and no one has heard from him.”
Yaima added, "The police are already searching for him, but please help me share his photo to see if he appears safe and sound."
The disappearance occurs during a period marked by a series of serious incidents among Cuban workers while carrying out their duties.
That same Thursday, in Moa, Holguín, the disappearance of Ramón Gresequi, a driver for the Nickel Mechanical Company, along with a truck from the state-owned company, was reported.
This Friday, a man was found dead on the hill of Miraflores, in the Yaguaneque area, with his body hidden in a hole and wrapped in nylon.
At the beginning of this month, Edisvey Rolando Pérez Rodríguez, a 32-year-old lineman, passed away in Havana while performing electrical maintenance work, as confirmed by the Electric Union.
In October 2025, Pablo López Infante, an operator at an electrical substation in Granma, went missing while on duty during a flood of the Cauto River, in another case that also prompted relatives to take to social media due to the lack of timely official responses.
The pattern of workers disappearing or suffering accidents in remote rural areas reflects the deterioration of working conditions in the Cuban electric sector, where personnel often operate without the necessary tools or safety measures to confront the risks of the terrain.
