The informal currency market in Cuba opened this Tuesday with new increases for its three main benchmarks, in another day of pressure on the Cuban peso.
The dollar is nearing 700 CUP, the euro reaches a new monthly high, and the MLC reports a significant rebound, albeit with few available data.
At 10:00 a.m., local Cuban time, was set at 698 Cuban pesos for the US dollar, 795 CUP for the euro, and around 509 CUP for the MLC (Freely Convertible Currency).
The dollar rises again and approaches 700 pesos
The U.S. dollar is trading this Tuesday at 698 CUP, with buying offers around 695 pesos and selling close to 700.
Exchange Rate Evolution
The US dollar thus rises again compared to the previous day and maintains a clearly upward trend. Seven days ago, it was at 684 CUP, which means it has accumulated an increase of 14 pesos in just one week.
The difference becomes even greater when extending the comparison: 30 days ago it was around 664 CUP.
The dollar has gained more than 30 pesos during this period and reaches this Tuesday its highest level in the past month, within a range that has fluctuated between 663 and 698 CUP.
The euro also reaches a monthly high
The euro also shows no mercy towards the Cuban peso, standing at 795 CUP, with buying offers around 790 and selling prices close to 799 pesos.
A week ago, the European currency was trading around 778 CUP, marking an increase of 17 pesos. Compared to 758 CUP from 30 days ago, the total rise amounts to 37 pesos.
With this Tuesday's movement, the euro has once again reached its highest point in the last 30 days and remains the most expensive currency in the Cuban informal market, with a difference of 97 pesos compared to the dollar.
The MLC surprises with a significant leap
The MLC records the sharpest movement of the day, although it is also the reference with the least available data volume.
Its indicative value is around 509 CUP, with a significant difference between the purchase offers, close to 459 pesos, and the selling offers, around 559.
On Monday, the MLC was at around 482 CUP, making this movement a jump of approximately 27 pesos in just one day. A week ago, it was around 417 pesos.
The gap between buying and selling prices and the limited number of listings, however, necessitate a cautious interpretation of this quotation.

- Euro (EUR): 795 CUP.
- MLC: 509 CUP.
Meanwhile, the official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba corresponding to Segment III remains at 659 CUP per dollar and 761 CUP per euro.
