Eva Mendes sparked excitement among her followers by posting a video on Facebook with her older sister Becky making Cuban coffee in the kitchen to remember their roots.
The video, titled "My Beautiful Sister Becky, A Little Cuban Coffee and Lots of Love," shows the two of them playfully discussing in Spanglish the correct technique for making the crema on the cafecito, with the familial joking tone that any Cuban instantly recognizes.
Upon tasting the result, the actress couldn't help but be honest with humor: "It's delicious. It's very good. I've had better, but it's really good."
But without a doubt, the funniest moment was when Eva shouted at the top of her lungs the classic, "Who wants coffee?" and immediately followed it up with a self-criticism, "what a pain," that came straight from her heart.
The Cubanism "qué chusma" —a colloquial expression used to refer to something scandalous or noisy, here used affectionately— sparked immediate comments.
"I love it, especially when you said 'qué chusma'! I would love to hear Ryan say 'qué chusma'. Teach him to say...!" wrote a follower, in what became one of the most repeated requests in the comments section. "Qué chusma! I haven't heard that word since I left Florida. It is not the first time that the Cuban-American actress—born in Miami in 1974 to Cuban immigrants—has captivated social media with her heritage. In March of this year, she Eva Pérez Suárez, which garnered over 609,000 views on Instagram in just a few days.
Eva has been showing pride in her Cuban roots on social media for years and has stated that she feels “completely Cuban and completely American”. Her partner, Canadian actor Ryan Gosling, with whom she has two daughters, has embraced Cuban culture so much that Eva herself has said he is “sometimes more Cuban than I am.”
