Spain will launch a new system to manage visa applications in Cuba starting from October 5, with a gradual opening of appointments through a specialized center located in Havana.
The Spanish Consulate General in Havana reported this Monday that the new Visa Application Center for Spain in Cuba will operate at 31 Avenue, between 18 and 14, house 1419, in Miramar-Playa.
The office will be responsible for receiving applications and documentation, assisting applicants, and delivering passports and resolutions once the files are completed.
However, the Consulate clarified that the decision regarding the granting or denial of visas will continue to rest exclusively with the Consulate General of Spain in Havana.
The change also marks the end of Bookitit for new appointment requests.
According to official information, since the past September 18, 2026, new requests for these procedures have no longer been processed through that platform.
Those who already had a scheduled appointment, received credentials, or requested them before that date will not have to start the procedure again.
These individuals will be contacted directly via email by the new Visa Application Center.
The authorities recommended checking the spam folder as well to avoid missing communications.
This change comes amid a high demand for consular services from Cubans, which is also characterized by constant criticism, delays, and difficulties in securing appointments.
In February, the Consulate increased weekly appointments for document legalization by 35%, raising them from 1,000 to 1,350.
Subsequently, starting from July 1, the availability increased to 1,500 appointments per week, although many users continued to report delays and difficulties in accessing the appointments.
In April, it was announced that the Spanish Consulate in Havana would start processing certain Schengen visas for another European country, expanding the functions performed by the diplomatic office in Cuba.
