A 17-year-old teenager lost his life early Saturday morning after being shot in the neighborhood of Allapattah, in northwestern Miami, as confirmed by local authorities.
According to information from Miami Fire Rescue reported by Local 10, rescue units arrived at the 3700 block of Northwest 23rd Court, between 36th and 38th Streets, at 1:52 a.m., after receiving a report of a person with a gunshot wound. The young man was immediately taken to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital in extremely critical condition, where he died that same night due to his injuries.
The identity of the teenager has not been released by the authorities.
Along with the minor, a 45-year-old woman was also taken to the hospital for evaluation, although rescue services reported that she did not have any injuries. The relationship between the two was not clarified by the police.
The Miami Police closed Northwest 23rd Court at 38th Street while officers and detectives processed the scene. Forensic investigators were seen coming in and out of the area with equipment, and a clear evidence bag containing what appeared to be a weapon was visible at the site.
The shooting occurred near Miami Jackson Senior High School, although authorities reported no connection to the educational institution.
Residents of the area reported to local media that they heard multiple gunshots followed by screams and the sound of people running. One of them claimed to have counted approximately seven shots. Another neighbor noted that security cameras recorded activity in the area, but stated that the footage had been deleted and could not be shared.
The incident adds to other violent events recently recorded in Miami-Dade. A week before, a shooting in Little Havana linked to domestic violence left two dead and two injured, including a 13-year-old girl. On the same Saturday as the shooting in Allapattah, in Homestead, an 18-year-old was arrested for allegedly shooting at a 16-year-old during an argument inside a truck, leaving him in critical condition.
By the end of this Sunday, the investigation into the crime remained active, and the police had not disclosed any details about the circumstances that led to the shooting or any potential suspects.
