At 10:00 a.m., local time in Havana, starts the day this Thursday, September 24, 2026, with increases in the two main currencies.

The US dollar is trading at 725 Cuban pesos (CUP) at the opening this Thursday. This represents an increase of 3 pesos compared to the previous day, when it closed at 722 CUP.

Seven days ago, the green bill was trading at 700 CUP, which represents an increase of 25 pesos in a week, equivalent to a rise of 3.6%. Over the month, it has gained 57 pesos from the 668 CUP recorded 30 days ago, although it's important to note that part of this variation may reflect methodological adjustments in the index.

Today's value also coincides with the maximum of the last 30 days, which is also at 725 CUP. The demand for dollars remains high among those looking to protect their savings against the depreciation of the peso.

Exchange Rate Evolution

The euro starts this Thursday at 827 Cuban pesos (CUP), compared to 825 CUP from the previous session. This represents an increase of 2 pesos from the previous day.

In weekly terms, the European currency has increased by 30 pesos from 797 CUP a week ago. Compared to 30 days ago, when it was trading at 755 CUP, the euro has gained 72 pesos.

Today's value also marks the highest point in the last 30 days for this currency. It remains the most expensive currency in the Cuban parallel market, surpassing the dollar by 102 pesos.

The MLC is trading around 479 Cuban pesos (CUP), although this value should be considered indicative given the low volume of transactions recorded during this time period. This is an increase of 4 pesos compared to the previous day, when it was at 475 CUP.

In the last week, however, the MLC has increased by 26 pesos from the 453 CUP of seven days ago. Over the past 30 days, it has fluctuated between a low of 415 CUP and a high of 542 CUP, reflecting a notable volatility. Without physical existence, its use is limited to state-run businesses that accept it, which restricts its circulation compared to cash currencies.

The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba (Segment III) is 676 CUP per dollar and 770 CUP per euro, remaining well below the values that govern everyday practice in the informal currency market. The gap between the official and informal rates currently reaches 49 pesos for the dollar and 57 pesos for the euro.

Although Segment III was introduced as a more flexible exchange mechanism, its official rate remains far from that of the informal market and fails to meet the actual demand for foreign currency from the population. In the last month, the official dollar rate has risen from 638 to 676 CUP, and the euro rate from 744 to 770 CUP, an adjustment that still does not close the gap with the parallel market.

In a scenario of sustained inflation, low state wages, and increasing partial dollarization of the economy, every fluctuation in the informal market directly impacts internal prices and the purchasing power of Cubans. The accumulated increases of the dollar and euro in recent weeks are pushing up the cost of imported goods and products traded in foreign currency within the country.
