The U.S. dollar continues to break record after record in the Cuban informal market, and this Wednesday it sees another jump, reaching 722 Cuban pesos (CUP), extending a rise that has taken it from less than 700 pesos to a new high in just one week.
At 10:00 a.m., Cuban local time, places the dollar at 722 CUP, with a buying reference of 720 CUP and a selling reference of 724 CUP.
The behavior of recent days demonstrates the speed of the rise. A week ago, the dollar was at 698 CUP, still at the threshold of the 700 barrier.
A day later, it reached 700 CUP for the first time and, far from correcting after hitting that figure, it opened on Friday at 703 CUP.
Exchange Rate Evolution
The race continued last Saturday when it rose to 708 CUP and reached a new high.
By Sunday it was already at 713 CUP, and on Monday it reached 715 CUP.
This Tuesday, the US dollar rose again to 718 CUP, before reaching the current 722 CUP.
In just one week, the index shows a gain of 24.5 pesos, equivalent to 3.5%. The increase expands to 56.5 pesos over the last 30 days, an 8.5%, although this monthly comparison should be interpreted cautiously as it may partially reflect adjustments in the index's methodology.
The dollar is currently at its highest point in the last 30 days, 722 CUP, while the lowest point during this period was 665 CUP.
The euro (EUR) is also keeping pace. This Wednesday, it stands at 825 CUP, with a buying reference of 820 CUP and a selling reference of 829 CUP.
The European currency rises compared to the 821 CUP from the previous day and has accumulated a gain of 29.5 pesos in a week (+3.7%).
In the last 30 days, it has increased 69.5 pesos (+9.2%), although this comparison may also be influenced by methodological adjustments.
The euro also reached its highest point in the last 30 days this Wednesday, while the minimum during this period was 753 CUP. Additionally, it continues to be the most expensive currency in the Cuban informal market, with a difference of 103 pesos compared to the dollar.
In the opposite direction, the MLC (Freely Convertible Currency) is moving, appearing this Wednesday around 475 CUP, with a buying rate of 460 CUP and a selling rate of 490 CUP.
The index shows a decrease of 26.5 pesos (-5.3%) compared to the previous day and a decline of 63.5 pesos (-11.8%) over the past week.
During the last 30 days, the MLC has fluctuated between a maximum of 542 CUP and a minimum of 415 CUP. As it doesn't have a physical presence, its circulation is primarily limited to transactions and businesses that use this payment method.
