At 8:00 PM, local Cuban time, the informal currency market in Cuba closes this Thursday, September 24, 2026, with a new bullish trend for the two main currencies. The US dollar and the euro have both recorded increases compared to the previous session, solidifying a trend that shows no signs of slowing down and continues to impact the purchasing power of Cubans. The MLC, with limited data available, provides only an indicative value. You can check the full evolution at .

The U.S. dollar is quoted at 728 Cuban pesos (CUP) at the close of this trading day. This represents an increase of 3 pesos compared to the previous day, when the average value was at 725 CUP. From a weekly perspective, the U.S. currency has risen by 25 pesos compared to the 703 CUP recorded seven days ago, which equates to a rise of 3.6%. Compared to 30 days ago, when it was at 668 CUP, the gain amounts to 60 pesos — a 9% increase, although this month-to-month comparison may partly reflect methodological adjustments of the index and not only market movements. Over the past month, the dollar has fluctuated between a low of 668 CUP and the current high of 728 CUP. It continues to gauge the pulse of the informal market in a context of structural currency shortages.

The euro closes the day at 830 Cuban pesos (CUP), representing an increase of 4 pesos compared to the previous day, when it closed at 826 CUP. In the past week, the European currency has risen 32 pesos from 798 CUP seven days ago, a 4% increase. On a monthly horizon, the euro has gained 74.5 pesos from 755 CUP thirty days ago — a 9.9% increase, with the same methodological caution applied to the monthly comparison. The highest value in the past 30 days coincides with today’s closing: 830 CUP. It surpasses the dollar by 102 pesos, consolidating its dominant position in the Cuban parallel market.

The MLC closes around 493 Cuban pesos (CUP), although this figure should be taken as merely indicative due to the limited volume of data available during this time frame. Compared to the previous day, when an average value of 468 CUP was reported, the difference is an increase of 24.5 pesos. Over the last week, it has risen 40 pesos from 453 CUP seven days ago. In the past month, the MLC has fluctuated between a minimum of 415 CUP and a maximum of 542 CUP. Without physical existence, its use is limited to the state shops that accept it, which restricts its circulation compared to cash currencies.

Exchange Rate Evolution

  • Exchange rate of the dollar USD to CUP: 728 CUP.
  • Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP: 830 CUP.
  • Exchange rate from MLC to CUP: 493 CUP (indicative value, limited data).

The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba (Segment III) is 676 CUP per dollar and 770 CUP per euro, remaining well below the values that govern everyday practice in the informal currency market.

Although Segment III was introduced as a more flexible exchange mechanism, its official rate remains far from that of the informal market and does not meet the actual demand for foreign currency from the population. The gap between the official exchange rate of the dollar (676 CUP) and the informal rate (728 CUP) is 52 pesos; in the case of the euro, the difference between the official rate of 770 CUP and the parallel market rate of 830 CUP reaches 60 pesos.

In a scenario of sustained inflation, low state salaries, and increasing partial dollarization of the economy, every fluctuation in the informal market directly impacts internal prices and the purchasing power of Cubans. The closing this Thursday, with the dollar at a one-month high and the euro at its highest level in 30 days, illustrates the constant pressure on the Cuban peso.

The CiberCuba Exchange Rate is an index of the informal Cuban market created through the automated analysis of thousands of currency exchange postings in Telegram and Facebook groups; the calculation disregards atypical offers and spam messages, weighs each transaction according to its age, and consolidates a representative value that is updated several times a day.
