Cuban actress Darlyn Morales documented on Instagram this Monday her reunion with her mother, her aunt, and her cousin Lazarito after arriving from Cuba to Spain, in a heartfelt moment that moved thousands of followers on social media.
Darlyn shared on social media the nervousness of the wait—with a calendar filled with crossed-out days—and then the hug at the airport when her family arrived past midnight after a delayed flight. Coincidentally, their arrival occurred on the very day of her cousin's birthday.
"I was the first in my entire family to leave Cuba. So, you think about arriving in a place and making a life for yourself alone. And suddenly, the people who are important to you start arriving. It's a divine blessing," reflected the actress in the first of the videos.
To welcome her loved ones, Darlyn prepared Cuban food: white rice, black beans, and meat with potatoes. Among the wishes she voiced aloud was a simple yet powerful one: to sit on the terrace and have breakfast with her mother, enjoying coffee, "at any hour, I don't care, I always drink it in the morning, but with my mom it's at any time."
The caption of the first reel summed up the sentiment with a phrase that resonated among the Cuban diaspora: "I have fewer and fewer left in Cuba, and I'm crazy because I don't want anyone to stay behind and they should be on this side. I want them to live with dignity."
"The process is always tough, but then the rewards come, I assure you. Up there is a God who is watching over us," Darlyn concluded their message for those still waiting to reunite with their loved ones.
Darlyn arrived in Madrid in October 2022 with a student visa to train at the Central Academy of Cinema. In Cuba, she had built a career in television and theater. Since her arrival in Spain, she has become a recognized voice of the Cuban diaspora on social media, often comparing her life in Cuba with her experiences in Spain. Last August, she sparked laughter by listing "absurd things" that are normalized in Cuba, and in June, another reel about the Cuban shout on the bus —"Chofe, parada!"— also generated thousands of reactions.
