The Cuban singer Osmani García and his wife Laura were welcomed this Wednesday at the White House as special guests for the Hispanic Heritage Month reception, hosted by President Donald Trump, an opportunity that the artist took to publicly request the freedom of Cuba.
García himself shared a video on his Instagram account in which he walks through the hallways of the presidential residence alongside his wife and expresses his excitement about the moment. "Who would have thought that we would be walking like this inside the White House? Welcome to the White House, family. It is an honor to have been invited along with my wife by the president," says the artist in the footage.
In the post's description, García directly thanked Trump and made clear the message he brought to the meeting: "WHAT A GREAT HONOR TO SUPPORT THE CALL FOR MY CUBA TO BE FREE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!"
The reception on September 30 was the first official commemoration of Hispanic Heritage Month celebrated by Trump during his second term, bringing together leaders and Latin figures from various fields.
The visit to the White House represents one of the most prominent moments so far in the artist's public interactions with figures associated with the Trump administration.
At the beginning of this year, García sang at the wedding of Trump's advisor Alex Bruesewitz, which took place at the Trump National Doral Miami, where Laura also created the wedding cake through her business Divine Delicacies Cakes.
Months later, in June, amid a severe crisis of blackouts and protests on the island, the singer made an urgent appeal to Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio with phrases like "Intervene now in Cuba!" and "Just get in there, for God's sake!".
García's visit to the White House coincides with a day of mobilization for the Cuban community in exile. This Thursday, Cubans are gathering in front of the presidential residence under the slogan "Finish the job" and the campaign #DoItTrumpDoIt, promoted by the presenter Alexander Otaola, to demand concrete actions from Washington against the Cuban regime.
