American Airlines stopped offering family memberships for the Admirals Club this Saturday, October 3, a change that particularly affects frequent travelers who previously shared this benefit with their spouse or partner.

The airline explains on its official Admirals Club membership page that those who renewed before October 3 were able to maintain the family option one last time. Starting this Saturday, renewals must be made through one of the new available options.

However, the change does not mean that active family memberships will be canceled immediately. American Airlines states that they will remain valid until the contracted membership period ends.

What changes from October 3rd?

Until now, the family membership allowed adding a spouse or domestic partner to the membership. American Airlines had previously announced its intention to eliminate this product as part of a reorganization of the Admirals Club.

The key date is October 3: from now on, family membership will no longer be available, and those needing to renew will have to choose from the current options.

The airline also clarifies that the option to access lounges upon arrival at the destination or during a layover remains available for members who meet the corresponding requirements.

An individual membership for 750 dollars

One of the main innovations of the new scheme is the individual annual membership, which American Airlines began offering on August 23 for $750 or 75,000 AAdvantage miles, regardless of the passenger's status level.

This option allows access exclusively for the account holder to around 50 Admirals Club lounges. In exchange for its lower price, it does not include guests or access to lounges operated by airlines or partner companies.

Therefore, a traveler who usually enters accompanied should take this limitation into account before choosing this option.

The full membership costs between 1,200 and 1,400 dollars

The full annual membership of Admirals Club retains guest privileges and access to the network of affiliated lounges. Its price depends on the customer’s AAdvantage status.

The annual rates effective from August 23 are $1,400 for an AAdvantage member without elite status; $1,350 for Gold; $1,300 for Platinum; $1,250 for Platinum Pro; and $1,200 for Executive Platinum.

This membership allows the holder to access with direct family members —spouse, domestic partner, or children under 18— or with up to two guests, always in accordance with the access conditions established by the company.

American Airlines also offers day passes for $79 or 7,900 AAdvantage miles. These passes are subject to lounge availability and may not be sold or accepted during peak times when the facilities are very busy.

American Airlines renews its VIP lounge offerings

The company assures that the adjustment of the rates is related to investments in food and beverages, renovation of facilities, service improvements, and new concepts within Admirals Club.

In August, American Airlines also announced that it is preparing new or remodeled lounges in several airports across the United States, including Miami International Airport (MIA), one of its main operating hubs.

The airline stated in an official statement that it is also working on projects for Chicago, Charlotte, Dallas-Fort Worth, Washington, Austin, and Nashville.

A change of special interest for travelers from Miami

The change may be significant for many travelers from South Florida who frequently use American Airlines. Miami is one of the airline's primary operational hubs and also a key point for connections to Cuba.

In June 2026, CiberCuba reported that American Airlines was then the airline with the greatest presence on the island, with flights from Miami to Havana, Santa Clara, Camagüey, Holguín, Santiago de Cuba, and Varadero.

For those who already have a family membership, the main thing to do is check its expiration date. American Airlines states that members can renew up to 90 days before or up to 30 days after the expiration date, although those who do so from October 3rd will have to choose one of the new options.

The company recommends reviewing the terms and specific price associated with each AAdvantage account before renewing, especially for travelers who need access for companions or use associated lounges outside of the Admirals Club's own network.
