The county of Santa Rosa, in the northwest of Florida, has imposed a nighttime curfew following the passage of Hurricane Isaias. According to the official statement from Saturday, October 10, the restriction is in effect every day from dusk until dawn, until further notice, and allows for travel for those who need to go to work or return from it.
The order was announced by the Sheriff's Office in the county update number 8 on Isaias, published at 3:15 p.m. local time. Authorities did not specify fixed hours or a specific date for lifting it.
Blocked roads after the hurricane
The county reported that most of its roads had become impassable due to fallen trees and downed power lines. It requested that non-essential travel be minimized to facilitate access for emergency services and the clearing of roads.
Public Works teams, with support from National Guard units, began removing trees and debris as conditions allowed for safe work. The preliminary damage assessment reported affected trees, fences, sheds, and some roofs, while inspections continued.
Authorities also reminded that drivers should treat intersections with non-functioning traffic lights as crosswalks with stop signs in all directions and proceed with caution.
Where to check the notices
Before moving around, residents should check the current status of the curfew and any possible changes on the Santa Rosa Emergency Management page and the notices from the Sheriff's Office.
The county provides the citizen information line 850-983-INFO (4636) for non-urgent inquiries. To check the status of state roads, you can also refer to Florida 511.
