Members of the Freemasonry in Holguín led a march through the streets of the city to commemorate October 10th, a date that marks the beginning of the struggles for Cuba's independence in 1868.
The route started from the headquarters of the Masonic Lodge of Holguín to the centrally located Calixto García Park, according to a post on the Facebook page Juan Cuenta Holguín, which shared images of the parade.
In the video, the author expressed his surprise at witnessing a ceremony of this kind and emphasized the solemnity with which it unfolded.
"This is an event I have never seen before, and I am grateful for the opportunity to witness it," he remarked while documenting the participants' progress around the streets of Narciso López and Frexes.
The citizen described the march as a manifestation of the cultural traditions of Holguín and recalled the international nature of Freemasonry.
"Look at the solemnity and how interesting the march is," he expressed.
The commemoration holds special significance for Cuban Freemasonry due to the historical connections of its members to the independence struggles.
Among them is Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, who led the uprising on October 10, 1868 at the La Demajagua sugar mill, an event that marked the beginning of the Ten Years' War.
"Céspedes was a Mason, like many other heroes of Cuba's independence," recalled the author of the video.
The march allowed for the remembrance of that historical connection and highlighted a tradition that is part of Cuba's cultural and historical heritage.
