At 8:00 PM, local Cuban time, closes the day this Tuesday, October 13, on the rise.

The dollar rises to 793 Cuban pesos, the euro advances to 888 pesos, and the MLC hovers around 550 pesos, although this last value should be considered indicative due to the low volume of operations that supports it.

The U.S. dollar is trading at 793 Cuban pesos (CUP) at the close of this trading day. This represents an increase of 5 pesos compared to the previous day, when it closed at 788 CUP. In weekly perspective, the greenback has accumulated a rise of 22.5 pesos from the 770 CUP of seven days ago, which translates to an increase of 2.9%.

Regarding 30 days ago, the exchange rate has risen by 99 pesos from 694 CUP, although it is worth noting that this comparison may partly reflect adjustments in the index methodology. The dollar also hits its highest level in the last 30 days precisely in this session, at 793 CUP, and continues to set the tone for the informal market amid a context of structural currency shortages.

The euro is quoted at 888 Cuban pesos (CUP), which represents an increase of 2.5 pesos compared to the previous day, when it closed at 885 CUP. In the past week, the European currency has gained 22.5 pesos from 865 CUP a week ago, marking a 2.6% increase.

Exchange Rate Evolution

Just like the dollar, the euro today reaches its highest level in the past 30 days, at 888 CUP, compared to a low of 792 CUP during the same period. It surpasses the dollar by 95 pesos, consolidating its dominant position and establishing itself as the most expensive currency in the Cuban parallel market.

The MLC is closing around 550 Cuban pesos (CUP), a value that should be interpreted with caution due to the low volume of transactions recorded during this time frame. Compared to the previous day, where a value of 513 CUP was reported, the difference is an increase of 37.5 pesos.

However, in the last week, the MLC has decreased by 53 pesos compared to the 603 CUP from seven days ago, a drop of 8.8%. Without physical existence, its use is limited to state-run shops that accept it, which restricts its circulation compared to cash currencies.

  • Exchange rate of the dollar USD to CUP: 793 CUP.
  • Euro exchange rate EUR to CUP: 888 CUP.
  • Exchange rate of MLC to CUP: 550 CUP (indicative value, limited data).

The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba (Segment III) is 702 CUP per dollar and 783 CUP per euro, which remains well below the values that prevail in everyday practice in the informal currency market.

Although Segment III was introduced as a more flexible currency mechanism, its official rate remains far from that of the informal market and does not meet the real demand for foreign currency from the population. The gap between the official and informal rates now exceeds 91 pesos for the dollar and 105 pesos for the euro.

The gap between the official and informal exchange rates reflects the persistent shortage of foreign currency in the state banking system and the high demand for dollars and euros by the population, whether for emigration, importing goods, protecting savings, or making purchases in the private sector.

In a scenario of sustained inflation, low state wages, and increasing partial dollarization of the economy, every variation in the informal market directly impacts internal prices and the purchasing power of Cubans.

The CiberCuba Exchange Rate is an index of the Cuban informal market created from the automated analysis of thousands of currency buying and selling posts in Telegram and Facebook groups. The calculation disregards atypical offers and spam messages, weighs each transaction by its age, and consolidates a representative value that is updated several times a day.
