Summary of informal market rates

  • Exchange rate of the dollar (USD) to CUP: 797 CUP.

The US dollar rises and hits a 30-day high

The U.S. dollar is trading this Thursday at 797 Cuban pesos (CUP) in the informal market, with a buying rate of 794 CUP and a selling rate of 800 CUP.

This represents an increase of 4.5 pesos compared to the previous day, when the average value was 793 CUP.

The upward trend remains clearly visible on the weekly and monthly horizon: seven days ago, the dollar was exchanged at 768 pesos, which represents an increase of 29.5 pesos in one week (+3.8 %).

In the last 30 days, the U.S. dollar has gained 99.5 pesos from the reference point of 698 CUP, an increase of 14.3%. However, it is important to note that part of this change may reflect adjustments in the methodology of the index rather than just market movement.

The value this Thursday, 797 CUP, matches the highest recorded in the last 30 days.

The dollar continues to drive the informal market in a context of structural currency shortages.

Euro: also rising and at a period high

The euro is quoted at 892 Cuban pesos (CUP), with a buying range at 885 CUP and a selling range at 899 CUP.

Regarding the previous day, the European currency rises four pesos (+0.5%), from 888 CUP.

In the weekly balance, the euro has gained 32 pesos compared to the 860 CUP of seven days ago (+3.7 %).

In the last month, the reference has risen from 795 to 892 pesos, an increase of 97.5 pesos (+12.3%). However, similar to the dollar, part of this variation may be due to methodological adjustments in the index.

The value of the euro today matches the highest point in the last 30 days, with a minimum in that period of 794 CUP.

The European currency surpasses the dollar by 95 pesos, consolidating its dominant position in the Cuban parallel market.

MLC: indicative value due to data scarcity

The MLC is trading this Thursday around 636 Cuban pesos (CUP), with a buying rate at 500 CUP and a selling rate at 772 CUP.

Regarding the previous day, the average value rises by 85.5 pesos (+15.5%), from the 551 CUP recorded the day before.

However, this data should be taken with caution: the source warns that the volume of operations in this range is limited and that the value is merely indicative.

In the last week, the MLC has risen by 51 pesos from 585 CUP seven days ago (+8.7%).

In the past month, the reference has increased from 509 to 636 CUP, although the comparison over 30 days may reflect adjustments in the methodology of the index.

The maximum in the last 30 days is 636 CUP and the minimum is 446 CUP.

    Methodology

The Exchange Rate of CiberCuba is an index of the Cuban informal market created from the automated analysis of thousands of currency buying and selling posts in Telegram and Facebook groups.

The calculation disregards atypical offers and spam messages, weighs each operation based on its age, and consolidates a representative value that is updated several times a day.
